Industry manufacturers, public sector officials, private sector representatives, sustainability organizations, engineers and architects -- a diverse group of experts and stakeholders all in one room, geared toward one cause: reducing embodied carbon in buildings. On November 21st, we were privileged to host an amazing group of people at the Carbon Coalition Conference themed "Know Your Impact". The conversations were focused and impassioned, empowering us all with invaluable insights to better understand each other's challenges with the implementation of carbon reductions. The Carbon Coalition has made significant strides this year, and after the new connections and energy generated at the conference, we are even more motivated to push for holistic strategies and solutions for decarbonization. On November 28th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, join KIRKOR’s Director of Sustainability, Lara Gumushdjian, for a thought-provoking seminar on the discoveries, challenges, and opportunities of the specific-based approach to embodied carbon. The current discourse about embodied carbon in architecture is focused on how both design based and broad stroke strategies can decarbonize buildings. Although the WGBC’s Report “Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront” suggests that both methodologies can reduce carbon, that is only one side of the story. Hosted by the Ontario Association of Architects, this webinar delves into another narrative to expand on what a specification-based strategy means in action, the results of its application, the significant information gaps revealed through our research process, and the “Carbon Disconnect”.
