I left the Sustainable Finance Forum yesterday feeling energized, inspired and honoured - honoured to be part of a panel discussing the importance of assessing, valuing and disclosing #nature risks and opportunities with such a fantastic panel, and a little star-struck to have been on the same stage that had just been taken by the ever-inspiring Mark Carney and MP Ryan Turnbull, and our own Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.   Institute for Sustainable Finance & Ryan Turnbull, thank you for all of the effort to put on such an amazing event. And Maya Saryyeva and David Watson, thanks for always being such great partners. It was because of our co-convenor role with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) that this conversation was so rich.   I have so many takeaways from the diverse conversations that took place over the two days that it's impossible to sum up in one post. Last week, I had the privilege of moderating a panel at the Sustainable Finance Forum where we explored a critical and timely topic: the economic benefits of investing in the protection of Canada’s natural assets. Our discussion brought together diverse perspectives on: • The role of policy frameworks in enabling sustainable investment, • The importance of valuing natural assets on the balance sheet, • How to direct capital flows toward nature-based solutions, and • Practical financing mechanisms that make these investments scalable and impactful. It was inspiring to see how leaders across sectors are recognizing the immense value that natural capital provides—not just as a key to addressing climate risks, but also as an opportunity to unlock economic growth and resilience. Protecting and enhancing our natural assets isn’t just an environmental priority; it’s an economic imperative.
