About us

2024 BC's Top Employers The City of Maple Ridge is located on the traditional territory of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations north of the Fraser River between the Pitt River and Stave Falls in the shadow of the Golden Ears Mountain. Maple Ridge is connected to the south Fraser by the Golden Ears Bridge which puts the City within 45 minutes of the US border, Vancouver International Airport, Abbotsford International Airport and all points in between. The City was established on September 12, 1874 and in the early years European and Japanese settlers established an extensive agricultural industry delivering products to the growing communities in the lower mainland and international markets. A century ago logging and wood production was the predominant industry. The railroad, located on the banks of the Fraser River, was the principal transportation route from Canadian Confederation until the development of the road network, including the Lougheed Highway, which saw the community shift from the riverfront to the current downtown in the early 30s. Maple Ridge has doubled in size every 20 years since 1921 and the most recent Census in 2021 revealed that our population was now over 91,000 citizens. Maple Ridge is one of the fastest growing communities in BC and the investments in the last decade to build the Golden Ears Bridge and the Pitt River Bridge have helped fill a housing boom and new investment in business. The City of Maple Ridge is proud to have 70% of all staff members living in the community reflecting the fact that this is a great place to work, live and play in one of BCs most amazing natural settings.

  • 🚀 Driving Innovation and Collaboration in Local Government: A Case Study from the City of Maple Ridge At the City of Maple Ridge, we are embracing the future of governance through digital and cultural transformation. As part of this journey, we’ve leveraged innovative tools and processes to align our operations with Strategic Priorities, enhance customer service, and foster a people-first culture. 🌍✨ Some of the challenges we faced that motivated this shift were: 📈Decentralized Data Management: Different departments working in silos made it difficult to drive data-driven decision-making. ⏭️Strategic Alignment: Aligning our diverse initiatives with broader city-wide goals was a challenge. 🧑Customer-Centric Focus: Improving the customer journey required standardized approaches to analyzing and measuring satisfaction. 🧩Cultural Transformation: Breaking down silos and encouraging collaboration across departments was essential. To address these and challenges, members of our leadership team enrolled in the Digital Transformation Leadership (DTL) program at SFU Beedie School of Business. 🎓 Through this program, we learned about valuable digital transformation tools and methodologies, which were applied to a variety of initiatives across the City. Some examples include: ✅ Aligning Strategy & Operations: Implementing a strategy performance management system that allows the City to track and manage its many OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) horizontally across City departments/workplans and vertically in alignment with the strategic goals. ✅ Enhancing Customer Service: We developed new strategies and tools for mapping the customer journey and regularly measuring customers' service experience. ✅ Fostering Collaboration: By breaking down silos and encouraging cross-functional teamwork, we are building a culture of innovation and continuous improvement using digital tools and process best practice. The Results? A more integrated, data-driven approach to governance that allows us to better meet the needs of our residents and businesses and respond to future challenges. 💡 The work continues as other initiatives are being launched to keep the City at the forefront of digital transformation. As the City of Maple Ridge continues to transform, we are excited about the long-term impact on our operations and the quality of our services. The ripple effects of these changes are already being felt across departments, with new frameworks and strategies paving the way for a more connected future. We were proud to be recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers in 2024 and are committed to ongoing improvement and innovation. 🚀 Read more about our journey and the Digital Transformation Leadership Program: https://lnkd.in/gPUPPtAK #DigitalTransformation #BCTopEmployer #MunicipalGovernment #MapleRidge #CustomerExperience #StrategicPlanning #CulturalTransformation #ContinuousImprovement #SFU
