Eight start-ups founded by Western Entrepreneurs will take the stage at the 9th edition of Western Angels’ Demo Day, seeking to raise capital from investors and experienced founders from the Western alumni community. This exciting lineup includes Aaqaraty, Project Picasso by Electric Sheep Studios, Materia Bioworks, Xatoms, Gigbanc, Chaser, RavenRiskAi, and Elluströs Held in Toronto on December 5, 2024, the eight ventures will present asks ranging from $250,000 to $1 million.

🎉 We Did It! Materia Bioworks is the CodeLaunch Accelerator 2024 World Champion! 🏆 The team went up against 7 finalists with really innovative companies. Congratulations to Endora Technologies, Inc., and their founders, Kitty Bogle-Sherman and Coco Harmon who won the judges and investors award! Lodestone, our Canadian counterpart, led by Dennis Chow who is working on incredible technology aimed at helping product teams and founders make better decisions, delivered a great presentation. The rest of the finalists did an amazing job, and we are excited to see what the future holds for SeekerPitch, Vet Specialists on Demand (VSOD), FIZI, AlterGard, and Welcome In. Your ideas inspire us to push harder and dream bigger. The team had the pleasure of answering the tough questions from the judges Nayeli Flores Morales, John Davidson, Howard (Lee) Mosbacker IV, PhD, and Alyssa McEwen, receiving valuable feedback. Raheel S. Malik and Jason W. Taylor were pivotal throughout the #CodeLaunch experience, and we couldn't have done this without their support. Kaitlin Stramiello, Evelyn Cepeda, Christopher Cline, Joshua Stramiello and the rest of the Improving team made this experience unforgettable, and we can't thank you enough for your support throughout the accelerator. Our founders Hasitha de Alwis, Kevin Eriksen, Rajan Manocha, and Michael Williamson were able to attend the event in Dallas, and had a great time connecting with companies, partners, and investors at the event, while winning the $25K cheque, and receiving $135K in services from an array of partners. Last week, the Materia Bioworks team had the privilege of attending the first session of the Creative Destruction Lab's AI Stream in Toronto CDL is not just an accelerator - it’s a transformative experience for all startups, offering personalized mentorship from some of the most accomplished experts, investors, and entrepreneurs. During the session, we engaged in focused discussions that challenged and refined our vision for our AI/ML platform dedicated to empowering companies to adopt sustainable biomaterials in their product offerings. The insights we’ve gained from the CDL team - from strategy to product development - are invaluable. We want to give a massive thank you to our venture manager Larry Welikala, who guided us throughout the entire process, and we really appreciate the support he has been able to give us. Malaika Kapur and Hormuz Sethna Dadabhoy have provided us with incredible advice and we are looking forward to growing with them throughout our journey. We’re inspired by the mentors we’ve met and the incredible advice they have been able to provide including Corinne Lau, Ken Nickerson, David Rosenberg, Benjamin Sanders, Joshua Gans, Neil Wainwright, Mark Shulgan, Prashant Matta, Zeeshan Ali, and Hyuk-Jeen Suh to name a few. 🌿 What an Incredible Experience at SoCal Bio 2024! 🌿 This past week, a few members of our team had the amazing opportunity to attend and speak at the Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio) Conference in Newport Beach! It was an unforgettable experience to connect with passionate founders, investors, and innovative organizations all working toward a more sustainable future. We’re beyond thankful to the SoCal Bio team including Y Hoang and Walid S. Materia is super excited to announce we have won the CodeLaunch Accelerator's Canadian 2024 Cohort. The #CodeLaunchCan experience was truly special, and helped our team on our mission to revolutionize the plastic industry with sustainable biomaterials. As a finalist, we were able to win a hackathon with a team of amazing professionals from Contollo, who did an unreal job to improve our revolutionary biomaterials platform. Aristides (Aris) Laguna Isaac C. Sara Elizabeth Peña Materia had an amazing experience with all the teams in the accelerator, and want to thank all the finalists for their dedication to their companies and support.
