The Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada is seeking 2025 nominations for the Timothy R. Parsons Medal. This prestigious award recognizes excellence in ocean sciences and honours the outstanding contributions of the late Dr. Timothy R. Parsons in the field. Any Canadian can nominate an eligible individual for this award. MEOPAR: Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network is committed to supporting the next generation of marine professionals and breaking down barriers in collaborative research. Through supporting programs like the internships offered by the Canadian Associates of the ASU Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (CABIOS), MEOPAR support enables students to learn from hands-on research in a collaborative setting. Through SSF funding, MEOPAR will be able to financially support the successful Canadian applicants and ensure students have access to this once-in-a-lifetime career-building opportunity. CABIOS was established in 1975 to provide support for Canadian post secondary students by allowing them the opportunity to participate in BIOS's unique educational programs and research internships. This time of year, many of us are waiting out the last days of winter and looking forward to some sunshine. But for a team of Canadian scientists, it’s time to head to Antarctica! 🚢 Making history with the first all-Canadian Antarctic Research Expedition (CARE), an NRCan-led group of experts will be doing several things during their time at sea: 💧 Water sampling to learn more about the ocean 🧪 Sediment, air, water, snow and sea-ice testing 🧊 Seafloor and shoreline mapping to understand glacier retreat and sea-level change These activities, carried out in the region governed by the Antarctic Treaty System, will help researchers compare how cold regions respond to changes in the environment.
