About us
Miller Waste Systems Inc. is a Canadian leader in the collection, haulage, recycling, and repurposing of organic and inorganic waste and recyclables. We service Canadian municipalities and industrial, commercial, and institutional customers. Our operations support daily waste management needs and construction and demolition projects. Family-owned and operated since 1961, Miller has grown from a two-truck operation to a full-service waste management company with a footprint in multiple provinces. We integrate seamlessly into the communities we service by hiring locally, supporting community projects, partnering with local suppliers, and understanding local needs. Miller owns and operates transfer stations Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), some on behalf of municipalities. At MRFs, Miller sorts and processes hundreds of thousands of tonnes of plastics, paper, cardboard, steel, aluminum, and glass annually and handles the sale and transportation of recycled material to the commodity marketplace. Sub-divisions of Miller Waste: Miller Compost converts leaf and yard waste from residential and commercial sources into compost, mulch, and other landscaping products that enrich and rehabilitate soil. Miller Environmental manages hazardous waste with innovative, sustainable solutions that prioritize safety, energy efficiency, and respect for the environment. Our team is capable of processing aqueous organic, inorganic, liquid, and special waste including flammable solids, spent catalysts, industrial wastewater, hydrovac slurry, and more. We also provide emergency spill response and project management services for environmental projects. Escarpment Renewables is Miller’s Class 3 wet anaerobic digestion facility in Grimsby, Ontario where we convert organic waste into a CFIA-certified liquid fertilizer for local agricultural partners and renewable heat and electricity for the Ontario power grid.

As proud members of The Compost Council of Canada - Le Conseil canadien du compost, Miller Waste is delighted that the fresh produce industry is moving closer to transitioning from plasticized to compostable Price Look Up (PLU) stickers. Following a meeting in Niagara Falls, industry representatives from around the world reached an agreement with composting organizations to accelerate the development and implementation of a single global standard for compostable PLU stickers, one that is compatible with compost standards around the world. Currently, stickered organics must be sent to the landfill or incinerators, since the stickers cannot be composted or easily removed. When this happens, we lose the opportunity to recover and transform these natural resources into products that enhance our soil’s health and productivity. Miller is hopeful that certified compostable PLUs will help reduce food loss and waste – one of the most pressing challenges facing Canadians today. September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Today, and throughout the month of September, we wear orange to honour the memories of the survivors of residential schools, those whose lives were taken, their families, and the communities that have been impacted. The residential school system was active in Canada for more than a century, with the last school closing in the 1990s. They were designed to separate Indigenous children from their communities and systemically strip away their traditions, languages, and cultural practices. We are taking this opportunity to educate ourselves and reflect on our shared history, recognize the injustices faced by Indigenous Peoples, and take steps toward a more equitable future. #ndtr #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #orangeshirtday #orangeshirtday2024
