Today, we were delighted to welcome Hon. Ruby Sahota, Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario | Agence fédérale de ..., to the Accelerator Centre for two important funding announcements that will foster local innovation while contributing to the growth of southern Ontario and Canada’s economy.
Expanding the Accelerator Studio program will provide even more local entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop their businesses right here in Waterloo Region. And the creation of Consortium for Sustainable Scale-up in Metal Additive Manufacturing (CSS-MAM) will allow the University of Waterloo’s Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing Laboratory (MSAM) to leverage our talent and proven track record of industry partnerships to enhance productivity and competitiveness for manufacturing industries by optimizing advanced manufacturing processes, reducing material waste, and improving supply chain resilience.
Importantly, the consortium allows for direct industry access to advanced facilities to achieve agile solutions, supporting R&D for startups and small and medium enterprises. It also supports industry-focused training for the skilled workforce of tomorrow. In today’s volatile economic climate, talent retention and advancing the scale up of domestic sustainable supply-chain clusters have never been more important.
Thank you to Minister Sahota and to the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario for advancing this critical work through the funding provided, and also to our local Members of Parliament Hon. Bardish Chagger, Bryan May, Valerie Bradford who attended the event, for your tireless advocacy on behalf of our institution and the region.
