Ian is the Senior Manager for Application and Joining Engineering at Valiant TMS and offers valuable knowledge and experience in his presentation. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2001 achieving a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with the Weld Specialization, he was part of the 3rd graduating class for this specialization. Over his years of working in the Joining field, Ian has had many opportunities to learn and implement new joining processes as they have developed over the years. Currently, Ian is the Chair of the AWS Subcommittee for Code of Ethics and the AWS Vice-chair of the Subcommittee for Welding Engineers, transitioning to the Chair position in January 2025. He also is a member of both the ANB / ANBCC Board of Examiners and the ANB / ANBCC Advisory Board for the CWB. We are honored to welcome Prof. Anming Hu as our distinguished invited speaker. Prof. Hu will present a fascinating talk entitled, ''Progress of Nanojoining: The Past, Today, and Beyond'' offering a fascinating journey through the evolution and future of this cutting-edge field. He will talk about thermal and nonthermal mechanisms, nanomanipulations, and recent advancements in nanojoining, highlighting applications in power electronics, 3D additive manufacturing, and future innovations like next-generation batteries, catalysis, and molecular electronics. Prof. Hu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, specializing in ultrafast lasers and nanotechnology. Prof. Anming Hu earned his first Ph.D. in 1997 from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his second Ph.D. in 2008 from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. He then joined the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo as a research assistant professor. In 2012, he was appointed as a guest professor at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, China, and served as a visiting professor at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University. Norman Zhou received the prestigious Comfort A. Adams Lecture Award, a distinguished honor recognizing his outstanding contributions to welding research. 🎉🎉🎉Prof. Zhou, likely only the second Canadian researcher to receive this award, delivered a compelling lecture titled "Nanojoining - A New Frontier in Welding and Joining of Materials." Prof. Adrian Gerlich presented cutting-edge research on "Induction Assisted Friction Welding of Tube and Rod Materials". PhD candidate Tetsuya Oyamada shared his rsearch on "Laser Microwelding."
