At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the world heard the long-awaited sound of peace at the end of the First World War. Among our bravest soldiers stood Sergeant Henry Thomas Shepherd; the man who stands out as “the black man who fought in an all-white battalion” (CBC News, Nov 07, 2016). Henry fought for the peace that Canadians cherish today. Amongst many other awards, Henry was named as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire; he embodies the values reflected in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Sergeant Henry Thomas Shepherd is the great-great-grandfather of Shannon Hermsen, the Operations Manager at WayMaker Immigration Services Inc. Today, we remember with respect and honour, the sacrifices of all Canadian soldiers.

On November 3rd, 2023, when Angela and her adorable daughter were refused, our hearts were broken, not because we failed, but because fairness and equity were fast asleep. How can you refuse an application on financial sufficiency when the applicants paid their complete tuition fees, purchased a GIC to cover their entire stay, and had over CAD 12,000 to cover flight and other expenses? How can you refuse an application when the provenance of funds is well established? How can you refuse an application on the basis of an absent of payslip when the employer already confirmed in writing that they do not issue payslips but rather a payment instruction? How can you look into the eyes of an innocent infant child and refuse her even when she exceeded the threshold as enshrined by law? Above were some critical questions we raised in our reapplication, ending our argument with these words, “As a nursing mother, Angela believes she does not have to choose between her education or parenting, as she can comfortably manage both simultaneously while in Canada, and as enshrined in section 3(1)(d) & (g) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. 💢 WayMaker agrees that a visa/permit is a privileged document and not a right, but that the law guarantees fairness in determining this privilege. 💢 WayMaker has been fortunate by grace and competency, with an approval rate of over 98%. What about the 2% of our clients that were refused? We pursue their cases to a logical end, just like Angela's. 💢 WayMaker is proud to state that, as of today, all of our clients for whom we pursued their refusals received approval. 💢 WayMaker is proud to state that until today (ended), none of our clients have paid additional professional fees to pursue their reconsideration or reapplication, except for fees for judicial review. 💢 WayMaker may be the first Immigration firm to publicly share their refusals. We are Real. We are Competent. We are WayMaker.
