Last week, the Ilitaqsiniq Youth on the Land program had an unforgettable experience in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut! ❄️ They joined elders, experienced hunters, and knowledge keepers to learn the traditional skill of netting fish through the ice. Along the way, they gained invaluable knowledge about preserving their catch—whitefish, lake trout, and Arctic char—turning them into piffy (dried fish) and koak (frozen fish). The group of Inuit youth also chose to donate a portion of their harvest to the local food bank, sharing their abundance with the community. 🙌💙 Traditional food donations are always especially meaningful. This program provides invaluable lessons on traditional values, survival skills, and the deep connection to the land. Through hands-on experience, the youth gained confidence, learned essential outdoor skills, and developed a profound respect for the Arctic environment. 🏞️🌟 The program not only teaches them how to thrive in challenging conditions but also emphasizes the importance of safety in remote areas. Northwestel is proud to partner with organizations like Ilitaqsiniq, who create impactful opportunities and experiences for the youth of the North. Our North. Our Home.

We're grateful to the many partners who have helped make this significant milestone a reality, and honoured to operate this robust fibre network on the traditional territories of so many Indigenous nations. https://lnkd.in/g4hUuBbR
