Northwestel’s Post

The Canada North Fibre Loop is live, and with it comes significant protection from internet and cellular service disruptions for our customers in Yukon and Northwest Territories. We're grateful to the many partners who have helped make this significant milestone a reality, and honoured to operate this robust fibre network on the traditional territories of so many Indigenous nations. https://lnkd.in/g4hUuBbR

As someone that has help provide fibre and copper service to some of most remote communities in the north it is great to see. Utilities companies have many struggles in the north and all continue to work to improve and succeed every day. The three Territories are large and with many different obstacles to overcome. Many to do with material, ground, and weather conditions. Along with limited population and resources. Working in the north and doing my job was something I took pride in everyday trying to provide services to people of the north. The north will always have a special place for me.

Nicely done, great to see it finally all come together.

What a great accomplishment. Congrats. If you're ever interested in learning more about protecting this asset, please look at our company. We specialize in physical protection against sabotage and intrusions to your fibre networks and pathways. We can pin-point exact intrusions and identify any open /close state of any Maintenace hole, junction box etc. This is our specialty. Don't go unprotected on such a great investment.

Congratulations to all the tax payers that paid for it. And the workers that planned and laid the cables. There is hoping .... and may this line not get cut nearly as often as the one to BC, and may it stay in the ground as it is supposed to in our permafrost melting subarctic. Onwards.

Congrats! Connecting communities as someone who used to drive freight to alot of these communities. Need cell towers now between these communities as you can go hours with no communication to the outside world.

Is this not an outdated concept with huge capital cost, the entire project cost looks like a sunk cost now. Ontario is connecting it's remote communities through StarLinks, which is a kind of more cost effective way.

Im curious how many people this services? I was looking around on google maps and I found maybe like 200 buildings. Those people up there are truly in the middle of nowhere.
