  • RVTs are a vital part of the veterinary team, and research shows that each RVT can add $78,000 to gross revenues annually. Ensure your team is the best in the industry by taking advantage of Canada's largest RVT-specific conference. Unlike other veterinary conferences, all streams at the 2025 OAVT Conference are RVT-specific. There is a strong focus on educating RVTs in their roles so they can bring that knowledge back to their clinics. RVTs new to the profession can learn new skills specific to your clinic with 15 streams to choose from, including dermatology, dentistry, equine, nutrition, anesthesia and internal medicine. RVTs who have been in the field for some time but are looking to update their knowledge and skills can target sessions where the skill level required is “experienced.” However, RVTs with a lot of experience can find more advanced sessions in the following tracks: A & A, Behaviour, Clinical Pathology, ECC, Internal Medicine, Nutrition, Orthopedics, Practice Management and RVT Well-Being. Your floor and clinic managers can find out more about the Veterinary Professionals Act and how fully mobilizing RVTs can grow your business. You’ll learn how to navigate the legalities, see examples of what high-mobilization of RVTs in a veterinary practice looks like and why doing so improves patient care and profitability. There are also sessions on debriefing after stressful and traumatic situations, building a strong team and how to help your staff become more resilient from a compassion fatigue specialist. At the 2025 OAVT Conference you can be confident your staff are getting the most out of each learning opportunity with session attendance tracking. Visit conference.oavt.org for complete details on the 2025 OAVT Conference. Group discounts are available! Email events@oavt.org and provide your clinic name and the names of all the delegates from your clinic who will be attending to get 10% off each conference pass.

  • Industry partners are recognizing the OAVT’s leadership in helping to get the Veterinary Professionals Act, 2024 passed and RVTs the recognition they deserve. Our partners at Veterinary Purchasing invited Executive Director Elise Wickett, RVT, MBA, to speak at their regional member appreciation events to answer questions from practice managers, DVMs and RVTs about the Act and what it means for the future. Elise was happy to share her insights as one of the key players in getting the government on board with legislative reform. She highlighted the depth of knowledge and skill RVTs bring to the table and how leveraging that expertise leads to better job satisfaction for employees and increased revenue for clinics. She answered questions from OAVT members about what the changes will mean for them and encouraged DVMs and practice managers to allow RVTs to work to the full scope of their skill set. These discussions only scratched the surface, and the OAVT will continue to share its knowledge and insight to educate stakeholders as we navigate this transition together. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay in the loop on all the latest developments. For updates, visit: https://lnkd.in/gcJjhTmY

  • The Veterinary Professionals Act, 2024 is ushering in a new era of team-based care that will modernize veterinary medicine and provide new possibilities for practices to grow their businesses and revenues. At Veterinary Purchasing’s member appreciation events in Ajax, Cambridge, London, and Barrie, the OAVT’s executive director Elise Wickett, RVT, MBA, shared insights with veterinarians, practice managers, and RVTs about the Act and what it means for the future. The panel discussions provided a unique opportunity to share the advantages RVTs bring to practices that adopt a team-based model of care and how practices can leverage RVTs and RVT-owned businesses to grow revenues and provide a more efficient client experience. Did you know that for each additional RVT on staff, research shows clinics’  revenue grew by $78,000? RVTs can perform many activities typically handled by veterinarians, and leveraging that for routine care can free up a veterinarian’s time to handle more complex cases. What would you accomplish if you had more time in a day? The OAVT is following the work of the Transition Council closely and will continue to update our members and the broader veterinary medicine community so we can all make the most of this new opportunity. Be sure to follow our social channels to stay in the know. What a fantastic time we had at the The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair 2024! Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of engaging with so many students in Ontario through our impactful educational programs and interactive booth at the fair. At our thinkAG Career Competition, over 200 students explored diverse career paths in agriculture and food through interactive activities at various booths, competing for points and prizes along the way. This dynamic experience ignited their interest in the industry and provided them with invaluable insights to shape their future careers. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers from 4-H Ontario, Chicken Farmers of Ontario, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Farm & Food Care Ontario, Garden Ontario, Grain Farmers of Ontario, Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, Ontario Beekeepers Association, Ontario Beef, Ontario Pork, and Worm Wrangler for their support! Our Local Food Workshops were equally inspiring! Over two days, students learned how Ontario’s local food systems impact their health, communities, and the environment. Through hands-on activities and expert guidance from our Teacher Ambassadors, the students explored the importance of local food and how to make healthy food choices. At our interactive booth, attendees discovered exciting careers in agriculture and food while exploring our educational programs and resources. It was wonderful to engage with so many enthusiastic students, teachers, and families throughout the fair! We also had the pleasure of connecting with our incredible partners and supporters who joined us at the fair. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to advancing agriculture and food education in Ontario! A special thank you to The Royal for making these educational experiences possible at this year’s fair. We look forward to returning next year and the opportunity to amplify our impact on students in Ontario! #RAWF102 #MeetMeAtTheRoyal #OntAg # #AgFoodCareers
