Ending Global Poverty Begins with Women's Rights #TheFutureIsEqual
About us
Oxfam Canada works with partner organizations in developing countries; tackling the root causes of poverty and inequity and helping people to create self-reliant and sustainable communities. Oxfam’s vision is a just world without poverty. We envision a world in which people can influence decisions which affect their lives, enjoy their rights, and assume their responsibilities as full citizens of a world in which all human beings are valued and treated equally. Oxfam Canada’s mission is to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice with a focus on improving the lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. Working with Canadians, our partners and allies around the world, we mobilize people and resources to change policies, practices, attitudes and behaviours that create inequality and human suffering. Oxfam is committed to strengthening a global movement in support of human rights and gender justice on a healthy planet.

Last night, we celebrated the launch of the 2024 State of World Population report together with Parliamentarians and Senators, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and CAPPD. It has been 30 years since the Cairo International Conference on Population and Development, a pivotal moment that shifted global focus towards women's rights, development, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Despite progress, the past decade has witnessed alarming rollbacks in women's rights worldwide, including in Canada. Oxfam Canada’s Alexandra Wilson talked about some of the efforts of Oxfam Canada’s Her Future, Her Choice project in Malawi to make improvements to the restrictive abortion laws and the devastating outcomes that women face when fundamental health care is made illegal. She emphasized the devastating consequences of denying women access to essential healthcare, underscoring the urgent need for policy changes and increased support for women's rights. Her Future, Her Choice is a project funded by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada.

Behind the staggering numbers are human stories - like that of Achol Ring Tong, a 21-year-old mother navigating life on the move, from fleeing violence in Sudan to seeking safety in South Sudan. In Renk, South Sudan, Oxfam is providing clean water and cash assistance to over 90,000 refugees and returnees like Achol, supporting them as they navigate unimaginable challenges. 💡 Read Achol’s full story and learn more about Oxfam’s response to this crisis: https://lnkd.in/ezCT8Rjx #SudanCrisis #RefugeeStories #OxfamCanada #HumanitarianAid

🌟 Today is World Children's Day! And every child deserves access to high-quality early learning and child care. The $10aDay Child Care Plan has already made care more affordable for over 1 million families, but there’s still work to do! At Oxfam Canada, we’re calling on governments to: ✅ Expand the $10aDay plan ✅ Improve wages and working conditions for early childhood educators. ✅ Create more public and non-profit child care spaces. Child care is a public good so let’s ensure no family is left behind. Join us in the #10DaysOfAction to build a brighter future for children across Canada. 💪 Together, we can make child care accessible for all. SIGN TODAY - https://lnkd.in/gNp6bPvX cc. Child Care Now

🙅♀️ PSA: Your colleagues don't need a scented candle as a holiday gift. Let’s be real. Linda doesn’t need another hot chocolate kit. Mike definitely doesn’t need another desk organizer he’ll never use. But a gift that helps people in vulnerable communities thrive? Now we're talking. ✨ 💖 Oxfam Unwrapped symbolic gifts are great for workplace gifting. Think cash vouchers, clean water kits, or even school supplies for communities in need. ✏️ 🌍 Head over to Oxfam Unwrapped and make your gifts this year actually matter. Because fighting inequality > awkward Secret Santa swaps. 💚 https://lnkd.in/e-TAKyrd

💚 At Oxfam Canada, we understand that pushing for social justice often faces opposition. But we also know that real change requires persistence, even when progress feels slow or difficult. In recent years, many organizations and institutions, including Oxfam, have made public commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 💚 Here's a look at the strides we've made in our journey towards anti-racism, JEDI and decolonization. These achievements are a source of our pride and should serve as encouragement for the future. READ OUR PROGRESS REPORT ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ewGvHJJE
