  • The Winds Are Changing- This is a story of Resilience and Transformation. What if we told you that people with disabilities contribute over $55 billion annually to Canada’s economy? Incredible, isn’t it? It’s a testament to resilience, innovation, and the unyielding spirit of millions who refuse to let barriers define their potential. Yet, imagine the possibilities if our built environments were fully accessible. Imagine a Canada where navigating workplaces, malls, hospitals, and community centers didn’t require second-guessing ramps, elevators, or signage. That future is closer than you think. The Accessible Canada Act (ACA) is setting the foundation, with regulations pushing businesses and public spaces to remove barriers by 2040. These pathways to empower individuals, create opportunities, and build a nation where everyone has the freedom to thrive. At Pedesting, we’re proud to be part of this movement. Our app transforms-built environments into navigable, inclusive spaces. We ensure that everyone—whether using a wheelchair, pushing a stroller, or simply exploring—can go anywhere, access employment, and live life without limits. When you celebrate IDPD with us, you’re celebrating more than accessibility. You’re celebrating resilience, freedom, and a brighter, barrier-free future for Canada. Join us! Download the Pedesting app today.

Some moments remind us why we do what we do and last week was one of them. The Pedesting team had the privilege of joining our CEO and co-founder, Nabeel Ramji at the Haskayne School of Business Award Event, where he was honored with the Big Ideas and Bold Leadership Award. It was a truly special evening, surrounded by friends and families of the award recipients. For us at Pedesting, it was a proud moment to witness Nabeel’s incredible journey over the last few years and to celebrate everything he stands for. He inspires us every day, not just through his work but in the way he leads and lives. To quote Nabeel: “Community is everything.” And if you’ve ever worked with him or seen him in action, you know just how much those words guide everything he does. At Pedesting, we share that belief. We want everyone to be able to go anywhere they want, without barriers and with confidence. We’re excited to keep building, keep innovating, and keep pushing for a world where mobility is a right, not a challenge. This is just the beginning.

💡 What happens when mentorship meets innovation? Our team members, Erin Shilliday and Josephine Mary recently joined the Innovation Sprint Program at Mount Royal University Royal University (MRU) as mentors, partnering with the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Over five weeks, they worked with a talented team of four students to tackle a real-world corporate challenge for Pedesting using an innovative framework. The journey culminated in a final presentation where the students showcased a creative solution that Pedesting can adopt. It was incredible to see what they achieved! A big thank you to Sydney Harder and Diana Grant-Richmond for designing such an impactful program. Opportunities like this are invaluable in connecting students to the corporate world and empowering them with problem-solving skills for the future. Congratulations to Shelby Campbell, Dipta Paudel, David Soriano and Manal Mushtaq on the successful completion of this program.

  • Thank you so much Anh Nguyen, CMP for sharing these insights, and how event planners can be appeal to new audiences by addressing barriers for those that usually do not attend. We are very lucky to partner with Calgary TELUS Convention Centre over the last year who has seen this as an opportunity, and it has been amazing to work with the leadership team (Kurby Court, MA., CCP, Alyson Robb, CICE) towards making the venue more accessible, inclusive and welcoming to everyone. Thank you Anh and the leadership team at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre for recognizing the importance expanding your reach when organizing events or gathering!

Designing & creating business event experiences that foster connection, create impact, and spark change

“We always get the same 400-500 people at our event.” When clients tell me this and say they want to attract new attendees, I ask: Are you doing anything to design your event for new audiences? Spoiler alert: they’re usually not. Changing the tagline, theme, colours or speakers every year isn’t enough. Designing events to appeal to new audiences means intentionally addressing barriers for those who don’t typically attend. 🧠 Neurodiversity: Are there quiet spaces or sessions for people who need a break from conference overload? The quiet room at the PCMA Canada East Chapter’s CIC event (pictured below) was awesome. Some attendees don’t want to or can’t network for 6 straight hours! 🌎 Accessibility: Are there translation, captioning, or visual/audio aids available? (something like Wordly is really easy to implement and use). 🥗 Food & Beverage: Are food and beverage options diverse, healthy, and inclusive (vegan, non-alcoholic) or are we still putting out cookies at every break? 🏨 Venue: Does the space allow for movement and accessibility? Following the work that Nabeel Ramji is doing at Pedesting has been eye opening. 🚗 Transportation: Is public transit or group transportation available? Or is the only way to get to your event by car? 👩🍼 Parenting Obligations: Are there nursing or pumping spaces to support new parents? Bonus if on-site childcare is an option! If your event doesn’t check these boxes, it’s not about blame—it’s about awareness. We all design with bias, shaped by our own experiences and the audiences we know. But true inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword or something nice you do; it’s a powerful strategy to expand your reach and ensure your event resonates with a broader audience.

  • That’s a wrap on the Innovation Week! Yesterday, our CEO Nabeel Ramji was at Platform Calgary for Founder Journeys: From Start to Scale event. The hunger to learn and succeed in business and to scale up is visible in the eyes of the amazing people who were present there. One of the important takeaways Nabeel shared from his journey is, "Being Agile” to scale up and grow. Thank you for everyone who joined us. Congratulations to Platform Calgary Calgary Alberta Innovates and all other stakeholders involved in making the Innovation Week a success. Lan (Scaleup) T.

🏢5 things we learned from the Calgary Real Estate Forum Panel discussions. Recently, the Pedesting Team (Nabeel Ramji & Steve Bowers) attended the Calgary Canadian Real Estate Forums, where industry leaders shared valuable insights on the intersection of AI, automation, and real estate. Here are our top five takeaways from the panel discussions including the panel on Digital Innovation in Commercial Real Estate hosted by Ian Macdonald. 📌AI as an Enhancement, Not a Replacement AI is a powerful tool, helping automate repetitive tasks and freeing up time for strategic growth. However, a “human touch” remains essential for tenant relationships and customer service. 📌Data is the Foundation of AI Commercial real estate firms must organize and centralize their data to unlock the full potential of AI tools. With so much untapped data, a unified strategy is key to better decision-making and enhancing operational efficiency. 📌Scalability Through Incremental Wins Small technological advancements often create the most significant impact. Organizations focusing on one pain point at a time (like tracking tenant insurance compliance) experience lasting improvements that inspire further adoption. 📌Meeting Users Where They Are AI tools that integrate seamlessly into existing workflows—whether through email, text, or Outlook—are seeing the highest adoption rates. These “lightweight” solutions prioritize user comfort over drastic change. 📌Cybersecurity is Non-Negotiable As properties digitize, understanding and addressing cyber threats is critical. Ensuring both in-house and third-party vendors follow best practices protects against data vulnerabilities. As we work towards bridging the gap in commercial real estate by making properties more accessible and navigation-friendly, these takeaways are crucial reminders and learnings to ensure efficient and smooth operations. #CalgaryRealEstateForum #AI #AccessibleNavigation
