  • It has been a hard year for Toronto tech with layoffs and freezes happening all over the place. Again. :( So it is good to remember that the economy is fluid and Toronto is still a GREAT place to be. Toronto is the fourth-largest city in North America with a regional population of almost seven million people. The city offers Series A funding at nearly 150 percent of the global average, while early-stage funding is more than four times the global average. The city is also producing far more tech jobs than tech graduates, making it the continent’s number-one market for so-called ‘brain gain’.     If you are pre-series A or even Series A startup you should hire leaders that can do the job you are hiring them to do themselves. Yes, even if they have a team. Leading from the front has so many benefits. Learning the market/customers first hand, getting the respect of your team, seeing what the ground level battle looks like before you come up with a strategy or playbook etc Often the argument for not actually doing the work themselves is that it doesn't scale or that it is a 'waste' of their time and experience. While that can be the case if they are in that player-coach role for too long, execs that don't want to be operational are usually mishires. https://lnkd.in/dQtJuVvP
