Once A Patricia, Always A Patricia

About us

The Mission of the PPCLI Association is to support the interests of our Regiment. The Association was formed to foster and maintain the spirit of the Regiment, to circulate information regarding the Regiment amongst its members, and to perpetuate the close comradeship, mutual regard and esprit de corps formed amongst all ranks while serving in the Regiment. August 2014 marks the 100 years of service to Canada by Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. The Regiment was founded by an act philanthropy when in August 1914 Montreal businessman Andrew Hamilton Gault's offer of $100,00 for the purpose of raising and equipping a regiment was accepted by the Government of Canada. The Regiment was to be composed of veterans and would be the first Canadians in the field in World War I. Since that time more than 1,850 Patricia's have fallen in the service of Canada, in all her wars, in peacekeeping and peace support operations, in operations in Canada and elsewhere. Over the 100 years of its history, many more thousands of other members of this Regiment have been wounded or injured through their service to this nation.

  • In August 2023 I was approached by the Memory Project to participate in project to create a video on Canadian participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Myself, Ron Bragdon, and Bob Thomas were interviewed for the video. Hopefully you will find it worthwhile. Disclaimer: The use of cigarettes to defuse a challenging situation was while I served on other UN Missions.

Our NEW #MemoryProject video launches today!  "It was not peacekeeping. It was peace enforcement and survival.”     The UN peacekeeping operation in Cyprus is one of Canada's longest overseas military commitments, but conflict on the island remains unresolved. In this Memory Project video, three Canadian Peacekeepers share their stories of service across three decades on the island.    2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus. Canadian Peacekeepers were the first to arrive on the ground in 1964, and Canada has maintained involvement in the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) ever since. While tensions on the island have stabilized, the conflict in Cyprus remains unresolved to this day.     Supported by the perspectives of three Canadian veterans who served in Cyprus over the course of three decades, this video provides an overview of Cyprus’ contested sovereignty and focuses on Canadian involvement in the United Nations mission there.

  • I fully agree and support the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families. We have lost to many people due to suicide. The loss of one individual impacts everyone and is one too many. Don't be afraid to do a buddy check and ask people for they are doing. Encourage them to seek help and most importantly listen do not judge them.

Suicide is a serious issue in the Veteran community, with Veterans up to two times as likely to die by suicide than similarly aged non-Veterans. To respond to this concern and equip Veterans and their Families with practical strategies and tools, the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families has launched a suite of suicide prevention resources created for and by members of the community and reflecting their unique needs and experiences. Developed in partnership with the Centre for Suicide Prevention, these resources aim to equip members of the community with information and strategies to support their impacted loved ones — and themselves. Find these tools here: https://lnkd.in/e4Fe2hbq
