How's your team doing, really? Recently, we've been playing with the idea of various birds as metaphors to team functioning - what do you think? What birds would you would add to the list, based on the experiences you've had either leading a team or being a member? Ducklings: a team that's just forming, not yet able to fly Ostriches: head in the sand, avoiding conflict and ignoring possible risks and challenges Peregrine Falcons: a team that moves so fast other people in the organization don't know what's going on Magpies: a team that's constantly distracted by shiny opportunities Woodpeckers: a team that's fallen into a pattern of poking holes in every idea, no real progress gets made Swallows: a team that's aligned, flying in formation, sharing leadership Crows: made up of team members who are competitive, territorial Vultures: they feast on the dead (i.e. a toxic team); team members leave meetings feeling dead inside Peacocks: everyone's most focused on showing off their accomplishments, bragging about how great each of their functions are   Owls: a team full of wise, long-tenured folks who "have all the answers". They've been postponing their retirements indefinitely because they don't trust that the next level of leaders are ready to succeed them. Other suggestions?
