If you have not agreed to all the issues in a divorce, several options are available: -Mediation -Arbitration -Litigation With mediation and arbitration, trained professionals are hired in an attempt to bring the divorcing parties to a settlement. The main difference between the two is that a mediator (who may or may not be a lawyer) makes no decisions. It remains the responsibility of the spouses to make the final decisions. With arbitration, both spouses agree to abide by the decisions of the arbitrator, who will assess the case independently and make a judgment based on his or her professional opinion. With litigation, each spouse hires a lawyer to represent their case to the Family Court in Alberta and a judge will decide on all the outstanding issues of the contested divorce. #Divorce #RTLaw

False: You may want the legal system to sympathize with you when your spouse has an intimate relationship outside of marriage. Neither the federal Divorce Act nor Alberta’s Family Law Act reduces rights to property or parenting time based on infidelity. This of course requires more advice from a qualified family lawyer if the situation involves family violence. Have any questions? The answer is both yes and no. The divorce rate in Canada has risen since the 1950s but peaked in 1987 at 363 per 100,000 residents. Today, it's around 220 per 100,000. Millennials, marrying later or not at all, are divorcing less - trends in Calgary fall in line with these American trends. Learn more: https://hubs.ly/Q02Z-t9G0 #DivorceTrends #RTLaw #MythOrFacts
