With a dual Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Calgary, along with a law degree from Queen's University Belfast, Stefania's education combined with her prior experience in corporate and commercial matters, makes her an asset to our entrepreneurial clients facing family law issues. Oakley Family Law is looking for a junior family lawyer to join our team. You will be assisting a family lawyer who is a 6-year call with a very busy practice. Responsibilities will include drafting of pleadings, correspondence, and disclosure; communicating and meeting with clients; and attending Court. This is an opportunity to receive true mentorship by being this lawyer’s “right hand” and work on high conflict litigation files involving parties of all socioeconomic backgrounds. This lawyer works primarily in-office and will need her associate to do the same. During Truth and Reconciliation Week 2024, we pause to reflect on the painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools on Indigenous communities. We acknowledge the atrocities committed and honor the resilience of Indigenous peoples. At the same time, we wish to amplify the achievements and culture of Indigenous peoples across these lands. In particular, we are proud to celebrate the Indigenous women of Oakley Family Law: lawyer, Taylor D'Souza, and legal assistant, Meranda McArthur. Taylor is a member of Keeseekoose First Nation, located in Treaty 4 territory, and pictured here wearing her beautiful ribbon skirt at her Bar Call Ceremony in 2023. The ribbon skirt is a sacred Indigenous garment, symbolizing resilience and strength. Being proudly Metis, Meranda aspires to assist and represent her community by publicly advocating for Indigenous rights and bringing awareness about the generational effects of residential schools. Thank you to both Taylor and Meranda for their dedication in helping others. Your warm spirits, passionate voices, and incredible skills are so appreciated by us and the clients we serve. Very pleased to see that the Government of Alberta, Legal Aid Alberta and the Law Society of Alberta have been able to reach a new governance agreement concerning the legal aid system. The new governance agreement will come into effect on September 6, 2024, and continues until September 5, 2029, ensuring that vulnerable and low-income Albertans receive access to legal services in family, child welfare, immigration, and criminal cases. This is a win for all Albertans regardless of whether you need legal aid or not. When individuals have counsel who can advocate for them and guide them through the process, it improves access to justice for all with a more effective use of Court resources.
