About us
The Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC) is an umbrella organization that represents a diverse range of international development organizations. SCIC administers the Saskatchewan Matching Grants in Aid Program which matches private fundraising in Saskatchewan with money from both the provincial and federal governments. This program has provided more than $350 million in support of 2,000 development projects in over 100 countries over the past 35 years. SCIC also undertakes development education and public engagement programming around international issues with funding from the Canadian International Development Agency. The WorldBeat global education school program, the SCIC Youth Program, the Earthbeat Newsletter, and ongoing capacity building events are examples of how SCIC engages Saskatchewan people on global justice issues. Global Poverty is a major global issue to Saskatchewan people, and SCIC is proud of the work our member agencies do to make the world more just.

🧵Experience the art of needle felting on blankets—a soft, repetitive, and soothing process. To craft our 'wool painting' or story, we use unspun wool and a barbed needle, gently poking the wool into the fabric until it becomes part of the blanket. This repetitive action calms the nervous system and brings comfort, whether practiced alone or in a community setting. 🧶Over the years, our collaborative blanket story has been touched by many hands and travelled to various places, telling stories of the times, identity and culture. It has united people, empowering them as artists, storytellers, and activists. This blanket is a soft invitation to connect—a symbol of care and community. Join us in this another session of this evolving story, where art meets healing and community. Sign up here: bit.ly/gceworkshops

Another International Development Week has come and gone, and from all of us at SCIC, we want to thank you for a wonderful week! 🎉Our Global Citizen Awards Gala is the cherry on top of a wonderful week of programming here at SCIC, and this year was no different. We want to thank all of the member organizations, politicians, activists, community members, and especially this year's awards winners and their loved ones that came out to celebrate on Friday. It truly was an evening of commemoration, inspiration and community. Congratulations again to this year's Global Citizen Awards winners! 🏆Heather Vierre O'Watch, winner of this year's Youth Achievement Award, is a Nakoda and Nehiyaw woman from the Okanese First Nation in Canada. Heather was selected as one of four young Canadian delegates to represent Canada in the Y7 Summit in Tokyo, Japan in April 2023 and she recently joined the Young Diplomats of Canada to further support other young aspiring global leaders. Heather is the founder of Timpsina Society, a local Indigenous youth-led initiative which seeks to empower Indigenous youth in building skills regarding policy and advocacy amongst the prairie provinces. 🏆 The winner of this year's Lifetime Achievement award is Andre Boutin-Maloney. Committed to continued learning and improvement, André is a distinguished educator who has dedicated his career to creating learning experiences that transcend traditional classroom boundaries. Through his mentorship in a variety of projects, he brings history and reconciliation to life, teaches about Indigenous ingenuity and the effects of colonization, and provides practical learning about sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty. Beyond the classroom, he runs a Computers4Kids program, and is heavily involved in the Japanese community as a member of the Regina and Fujioka Friendship Committee and the director of the Discover Japan Language and Culture Program. Thank you to all for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at our Global Citizen Awards Gala next year! #IDW2025 #GoForTheGoals #SaskCIC #VisezLesObjectifs #GlobalCitizenship

For International Development Week this year, youth across Canada used their voices to call for change thanks to a campaign organized by Inter-Council Network / Réseau de coordination des conseils and Councils across the country! Meet Balsimran, an aspiring young educator in Saskatchewan who submitted a powerful letter to policymakers, sharing a vision for a more just and sustainable world. Brought to life through a stunning illustration that depicts a brighter future, this letter from Balsimran Gill advocates for making education (SDG 4) a top priority through global teacher training, skill development, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
