  • Today, on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we honour the women, girls and individuals from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities who have experienced gender-based violence and remember those who have tragically lost their lives to it. We encourage everyone to educate themselves, take action by speaking up against harmful behaviours, and to centre the voices of survivors to help end gender-based violence. #WeRemember #NDRAVAW

  • Four Toronto hospitals are joining forces in a collaborative effort to provide the best possible outcomes for newborns and their families. The University of Toronto Press has launched the Journal of Clinical Insights in Neonatology, in partnership with the Toronto Centre for Neonatal Health (TCNH). The journal is a dedicated platform that stands to advance care for neonates through global collaboration between health-care professionals, and the exchange of critical knowledge, with clinical case reports. TCNH is a collective of neonatologists from Mount Sinai Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children, St. Michael's Hospital, and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, who have combined their expertise to provide education and outreach to improve care for the hospital’s most vulnerable patients. The global BALANCE trial 🌏 has proven that a 7-day antibiotic course can be as effective as 14 days for treating bloodstream infections, reducing hospital stays and minimizing risks like antibiotic resistance. Sinai Health played a pivotal role in this landmark study by leveraging its new clinical trial framework, which expands research to general ward patients—a model first honed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Michael Fralick and Dr. Michael Detsky were site leads, demonstrating that inclusive, physician-led trials can transform care while advancing global collaboration. But our innovation doesn’t stop there. A new course for students is training the next generation of clinical trial leaders. This is the future of healthcare research: inclusive, impactful, and patient-centered. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4g3PO4n #HealthInnovation #ClinicalTrials #GlobalCollaboration

According to a recent Meta-Gallup survey, nearly one in four people worldwide –approximately a billion people – feel lonely. After seeing the terrible effects of social isolation on older adults during the pandemic, Dr. Jacques Lee, Research Chair in Geriatric Emergency Medicine at the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, decided to direct his research efforts toward identifying and treating loneliness. • Together, let's build a future where people are not measured by their disabilities, but instead by who they are and what they are capable of. Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day that aims to increase awareness and remind us of the role we have to play in fostering an inclusive environment that is accessible to all. We must value diverse abilities and be willing to learn from the experiences of disabled people. Let's work to build a more equitable and sustainable future for all Canadians. #InclusionIsForEveryone #IDPWD
