Nike knows that developing the next generation of women in sports starts with coaching at the youth level. Tennis superstar and Nike athlete Naomi Osaka shares the same understanding and advocates for it with her Play Academy program. Anna Bediones attended Nike's recent Coach The Dream summit in Japan to learn more about the efforts to level the playing field for girls. When Howard University alumni Richard Palmer, MBA, and Arinze Emeagwali returned to campus last week to celebrate its 100th Homecoming, something was different: Nike Swooshes and Jumpman logos were everywhere. As undergrads, the two friends bonded over their love for sneakers. At the time, Nike didn't have a relationship with Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs), and the two never saw their school represented in Nike campaigns. Years later, the two marketers reunited while working at Nike and collaborated on a project to bring Nike and HBCUs together. Learn more about how they created the "Yardrunners" campaign and officially brought Nike and Jordan to HBCUs: https://lnkd.in/gdWQU4FV

It's been 40 years since the NBA sent Nike a letter warning them about Michael Jordan's black and red sneakers that violated uniform rules. That moment would change the sneaker industry forever. Decades later, the Air Jordan 1 would grow from a collector favorite to the most popular sneaker in the world. We had Garren Strong, the former head of Product Marketing for the Air Jordan 1 franchise, on the SoleSavy Podcast to learn how the one that started it all became a billion-dollar business. ❌ 👟 Watch or listen: https://lnkd.in/gzniRu_E
