It is with a heavy heart that we share this news with you today. These last few years have been challenging for the medical cannabis community. The legalization of the recreational sector heavily impacted medical cannabis access in Canada. Limited access to trained health professionals, industry resources and cannabis education continue to affect patients nationwide. Due to limited resources, and after careful consideration, we announce that Sora Care will be pausing its clinic operations effective October 4th, 2024. We thank all our patients, medical professionals, supporters, care team and collaborators who stuck with us this past year. Your trust in us had immeasurable weight. We will reassess the situation and hope to see you again in 2025. Current patients will continue to receive support during this transition. We remain available by email to answer any questions. We will never cease advocating for medical cannabis patient access. This is not a "goodbye" but a "see you soon". #medicalcannabis #canada

Fatal overdoses remain taboo in many communities, Overdose Awareness Day opens the conversation and fights to end stigma. In 2022, there were 7,525 apparent opioid toxicity deaths in Canada, representing a rate of 19.3 deaths per 100,000 population. This rate increased from January-June 2023 to 21.2 per 100,000 population. The majority of deaths (87%) occurred in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. (Government of Canada 2023) Numbers only continue to rise and this is concerning for the next generation. Better accessibility to overdose education and prevention, and mental health support is required to improve the situation in Canada. Overdose Awareness Day is dedicated to remembering without stigma those who have died and acknowledging the grief of families and friends left behind. Preclinical research on Cannabigerol (CBG), a minor phytocannabinoid growing in popularity, indicated it has anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. A recent clinical trial has shown promising results using CBG in treating anxiety and stress in humans. This new study is the first human clinical trial on CBG, a double-blind placebo-controlled cross-over field trial was conducted on 34 healthy adults, where participants ingested 20mg of hemp-derived CBG tincture or placebo tincture. Results indicate that CBG reduces global feelings of anxiety and stress and that it may enhance memory in the absence of intoxication, impairment, or subjective drug effects. However, patients' diets were not monitored and the low dosage administered of CBG may have influenced results, additional research is needed to corroborate these results. Since the legalization of recreational cannabis, some now dispute the need for medical cannabis clinics, however, most new patients require support from a healthcare professional. Not only for the perks of holding a prescription or for treatment and product guidance, but more importantly for harm reduction. New patients are often seeking ways to reduce or stop prescription drugs. Cannabis contains many components (cannabinoids, terpenes, etc) potentially able to induce clinically significant or non-significant drug interactions. Introducing medical cannabis to a patient's pharmacopeia needs extra precaution, as it increases the risk of experiencing an interaction. Interactions can vary considerably when taking into account dosage, the natural variability of cannabinoids, THC and CBD ratios, methods of administration and a patient's metabolism. Pharmacists are not all equipped to provide counsel for medical cannabis treatment, and until we can purchase medical cannabis through a pharmacy we need specialized clinics and trained healthcare professionals. Today, we remember and honor Thomas Hartle, the first Canadian to legally access psilocybin-assisted therapy in 2020. Despite facing a terminal illness, Thomas became a passionate advocate for psychedelic access in Canada and beyond. He was not only known for his dedication to the cause, but also for his generosity of spirit and unwavering kindness. Thomas’ gentle nature and commitment to helping others will continue to inspire us all. From everyone at MAPS Canada, we are grateful to Thomas for his profound impact on our movement. His legacy will live on.

Psychedelics in psychedelic-assisted therapy can help by inducing altered states of consciousness that can facilitate profound psychological insights, emotional processing, and spiritual experiences. The support and guidance of an experienced, trained therapist are important to provide the best opportunity for positive outcomes. Practitioners and patients have reported: • Increased self-awareness • Resolution of deep-seated psychological pain or other difficulties • Emotional healing – release and processing trauma, grief, or emotional pain • Exploration of consciousness and deep introspection • Spiritual and existential exploration • Behaviour changes in beliefs, habits, and patterns To learn more, we'll be discussing psychedelic-assisted therapy at our event September 19th at 2 pm.
