In 2010, driven by her deep-rooted passion for helping others, Chantal saved enough funds to return to her hometown of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There, she gathered a small team to carefully choose the ideal location for her vision: Shiloh Place Orphanage. What began as a dream has now become a thriving sanctuary offering much-needed shelter, care, and education to orphaned and vulnerable children. Today, Shiloh Place is not only a safe haven but also a place of learning, currently providing education for over 250 students on-site. Chantal’s dedication and belief that every child deserves a nurturing environment and opportunities for growth have transformed lives and continue to foster hope in her community. Celebrating Excellence: Congratulations to Steve Candy, Winner of the Vancouver Tourism Award! This July, our very own Steve Candy demonstrated the kind of quick thinking and compassionate care that makes Fairmont Waterfront so proud. While at the entrance of the hotel, Steve noticed a passerby looking unwell. He promptly offered her a seat and went to get her a glass of water. When he returned, she was experiencing a seizure. Without hesitation, Steve called for help, ensuring she received the immediate medical attention she needed. His calm and caring presence provided comfort during a stressful and critical moment. Steve’s actions embody the spirit of hospitality and care we strive for every day. His well-deserved recognition through the coveted Vancouver Tourism Award is a testament to his dedication to guest well-being. The Vancouver Tourism Awards established in 1989, celebrate frontline service providers who go above and beyond to create exceptional experiences for visitors. With over 300 nominations monthly, the award acknowledges one outstanding individual with a plaque signed by the Mayor of Vancouver and recognition at a special ceremony. Welcoming Hailey Hutchinson, our New Assistant Director, Talent & Culture! We are so very pleased to welcome Hailey Hutchinson, as the new Assistant Director, Talent & Culture for Fairmont Waterfront.
