Exciting News! We are thrilled to announce that our latest study, “The Role of Resilience as a Mediating Factor between Adverse Childhood Experience and Mental Health in Adolescents Receiving Child Welfare Services in Nova Scotia,” has been accepted for publication in the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal! Authored by Mehrdad Shahidi, Michael Ungar, Miryam Wedyaswari, and Mahnaz Shojaee, this research explores how resilience mediates the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on mental health outcomes for youth in child welfare services. Our findings reveal that resilience not only directly impacts mental health but also plays a crucial role in buffering the effects of ACEs. The study emphasizes the importance of tailored resources considering a youth’s sexual identity and educational engagement to enhance resilience and support mental health. We are excited to share Anam Khan's recent accomplishment! Anam, a Research Project Manager at the Resilience Research Centre and a PhD candidate in Health at Dalhousie University's School of Social Work presented a snapshot of her PhD thesis at the International Society for the Study of Self-Injury conference in Toronto on June 28. Her thesis aims to develop a sociological understanding of resilience to self-harm across cultures by examining Canada and India. With 5 years of research experience in both countries, Anam is proficient in quantitative and qualitative methods, including arts-based approaches. At the conference, Anam discussed how arts-informed methods can be utilized to study resilience among young adults with a history of self-injury. It was an incredible platform to connect with fellow researchers and professionals dedicated to understanding and addressing self-injury. Anam is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vital field and looks forward to continuing her important work. #ISSS2024 #ResilienceResearch #ArtsInformedMethods #MentalHealth
