  • Happy #GivingTuesday! We've got answers to your questions about online giving from our session with Nicole Danesi of CanadaHelps: ➡️ How do we engage supporters without overwhelming them with donation requests? Balance is key. Share updates, success stories, and challenges to keep supporters informed and involved. Nicole highlighted the importance of treating supporters like friends—engaging with them beyond financial asks. Celebrate milestones, thank donors, and let them see the impact of their contributions through stories and visuals. ➡️ How can small nonprofits with limited resources make the most of online giving? Small steps can lead to significant impact. Start with low-cost, high-impact strategies, such as adding ‘Donate Now’ buttons to your email signatures or optimizing your website for mobile users. Platforms like CanadaHelps are particularly valuable for small nonprofits, as they provide accessible tools for online giving without requiring major investments in technology or personnel. ➡️ What’s your top advice for first-time fundraisers? Start simple and stay focused. Identify your organization’s strengths, understand what motivates your supporters, and prioritize efforts that will have the greatest impact. Nicole’s parting advice: “Don’t aim for perfection—just get started and learn as you go.” Get more tips and read the full recap here: https://lnkd.in/g5enx4bm GivingTuesday | GivingTuesday Canada | #fundraising

  • For our final session of the year, we're tackling finance and accounting. These might not be the most glamorous parts of nonprofit work, but they’re undeniably critical if you’re looking to make the most of your funding. Understanding financial statements, leveraging AI tools, and building a modern finance tech stack can make all the difference in achieving transparency, scalability, and sustainability. For our final session of the year, we’ll break down complex financial concepts into practical strategies every nonprofit leader can apply. Here’s what Moez Bawania will cover on December 9th: 1️⃣ How to Read Nonprofit Financial Statements: Learn to decode key reports like the statement of financial position and statement of operations through a real-world case study. Perfect for improving donor reporting and board presentations. 2️⃣ Using ChatGPT and AI for Efficiency: Discover how AI tools can streamline tasks like budget planning, enhance decision-making, and increase accuracy in financial reporting. 3️⃣ Building a Modern Finance Technology Stack: From cloud-based accounting software to donor management systems, explore how technology can transform your organization’s financial processes. Whether you’re a nonprofit finance leader or simply looking to deepen your understanding of this essential area, this session is packed with actionable insights to help your organization thrive. • Transparency and clarity are essential when navigating government relationships as a social-purpose organization. As Jesse Clarke shared during our recent 10 Things Nonprofits Need to Know About Government Relations session, these qualities not only build trust but also strengthen your case when communicating with government partners. One key takeaway from Jesse: Don’t make them guess. Whether it’s a proposal, a meeting, or a report, ensure your organization’s priorities and programs are clearly aligned with government objectives. Be as explicit as possible about how your work fits into their framework to avoid miscommunication and maximize impact. Another crucial point: Be transparent about challenges. When unforeseen circumstances arise—whether due to economic shifts or external events—it’s important to openly share these challenges. A strategic approach to transparency can strengthen relationships, showing your commitment to responsibility while inviting government partners to collaborate on solutions. This level of openness not only fosters trust but also positions your organization as a proactive and reliable partner. Want more practical advice on building stronger government relationships? Just like any business marketing to consumers, nonprofits also have the challenge of getting your attention. That becomes even more competitive when sales and advertising increases everywhere all at once leading to the holiday season. Causes have to get creative. That’s why I love this creative example of nonprofits putting “products” in front of people to “purchase” with this vending machine. It’s called the Giving Machine, and it’s described as a new way to give this holiday season and “vend joy” to the world. I especially love that it’s a collaboration, not just one organization benefits. You can choose from 7 Toronto and Canadian charities: Daily Bread Food Bank, Covenant House Toronto, Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto, UNICEF Canada, CARE Canada, Jays Care Foundation and Right To Play. You can check it out now inside downtown Toronto’s mall, CF Toronto Eaton Centre, a high traffic place at any time of year. Hopefully plenty of holiday shoppers will be intrigued enough to make a donation purchase this holiday season. #givingmachinetoronto #givingtuesday #blackfriday #givingmachine #fundraising

Failure doesn't have to be a bad word. It can be one of the most valuable teachers we have — if you approach it with the right mindset. Founders are told to “fail hard, fail fast, fail often.” But failure rarely feels positive or productive in the moment. It can be overwhelming, frustrating, and even paralyzing. (And we’re hosting a free session about it). For those leading nonprofits or mission-driven organizations, where stakes often feel even higher given community needs, the fear of failure can hold you back from taking risks that could ultimately drive greater impact. Could you reframe failure? Instead of seeing it as the end of a journey, we could view it as a step toward learning, growth, and innovation. Failure is inevitable if you’re innovating or dismantling broken systems — but whether it defines your organization or drives it forward is up to how you respond. In the social purpose space, resilience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s essential. Nonprofit leaders and social innovators face challenges daily, from limited resources to navigating complex systems. Within those challenges lie opportunities to experiment, adapt, and improve. When you take time to reflect, analyze, and apply lessons learned, you not only build stronger organizations but also become better equipped to fulfill our missions. If you’re ready to talk failure, and see it as a stepping stone rather than a roadblock, join us for our next free session I’m hosting through The Good Growth Company. 10 Things Social Purpose Organizations Need to Know About Failure 📅 Monday, December 2nd ⏰ 12 PM EST 🎙️ Jessica Lee, Venture for Canada We’ll explore how to redefine your relationship with failure, learn how to fail intelligently, and apply these lessons to future challenges — so you can try to move past fear and turn setbacks into the fuel for meaningful growth. AI should be used in a way that aligns with your organization's mission and values. As Sean Pritzkau emphasized in our session, the responsibility for ethical AI implementation lies with you. Organizations will need to have more intentional conversations about how they use #AI, choosing tools and platforms carefully while ensuring data privacy and access controls. There's no doubt that AI can assist with tasks, but it’s ultimately up to you to communicate authentically and maintain the trust of your audience. Want to learn more about integrating AI ethically and effectively? Read the full session recap on The Good Growth Company Journal (commented below). Thanks Sean for sharing so many great tips last week! #EthicalAI #NonprofitLeadership #Automation #SocialGood #TechforGood

  • As GivingTuesday approaches on December 3, it's a great opportunity for your organization to take advantage of some innovative strategies to boost online giving and fundraising efforts. Engage a broader audience and maximize the impact of campaigns like GivingTuesday with these tips. We're here to help! Here are some key tactics and trends to consider: 1. Embrace AI for personalized engagement. AI can help you analyze donor data, predict giving patterns, and tailor communications, fostering deeper connections and increasing donor retention. 2. Diversify donor engagement. Shifting focus from solely major donors to engaging mid-level and monthly contributors can be beneficial. Catering to next-generation preferences and offering flexible giving options, such as digital wallets and mobile donations, are proving effective. 3. Leverage social media and live streaming. Social media platforms are pivotal for fundraising, especially among younger demographics. Live streaming events and integrating fundraising tools with platforms like Instagram and TikTok enable real-time engagement and broaden your reach. (GoFundMe's partnership with Meta exemplifies this trend, aiming to engage donors through social media integration). 4. Implement matching gift campaigns. Matching donations during campaigns like Giving Tuesday can double the impact of contributions, motivating donors to give more. 5. Use Peer-to-Peer fundraising. Empowering your supporters to fundraise on your behalf extends your reach and taps into new networks. Year-round peer-to-peer campaigns are becoming a staple, with nonprofits providing tools and support to individual fundraisers. 6. Enhance your donor experience with technology. Investing in user-friendly donation platforms, mobile-responsive websites, and seamless payment options ensures a positive donor experience, reducing barriers to giving. Integrating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems can also streamline operations and personalize communications. 7. Craft compelling stories. Sharing impactful stories that resonate with your donors' values and emotions is crucial. Authentic narratives about beneficiaries and your organization's mission can inspire generosity and foster long-term relationships. #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesdayCA | GivingTuesday Canada
