When you give to United Way, you're not just making a donation—you're offering hope to neighbours, families and friends who need it most. Hope exists in many ways—a counsellor comforting a woman in pain, hands sharing donated basic needs items, the healing act of wiping away tears and more. Through Hope Is In Your Hands, we're shining a light on the responsibility we share to change lives and shape a better Calgary for everyone. The economic challenges of recent years have shown us that anyone can find themselves in need, often unexpectedly. United, we hold the future of our community in our hands. ❤️ We are very grateful for several of our partner agencies who allowed us to film and capture the work they do in serving our communities every day. A big thank you to WINS (Women In Need Society), Distress Centre Calgary, Calgary Counselling Centre and the Sunalta Community Association for ensuring we represent the essence of their work that fuels our mission. #HopeIsInYourHandsYYC #JointheMovement

On November 14, we gathered for Métis Learning Day, a special event during Métis Week, to celebrate the rich culture, history and language of the Métis people. Through engaging presentations and performances, we explored how the Michif language, arts and music reflect the strength and resilience of Métis communities. Dan Cardinal introduced us to Michif, explaining its regional variations and how it embodies the openness and connectedness of Métis culture. The Calgary Métis Dancers, accompanied by fiddler Billy Joseph, filled the room with energy, inviting everyone to join in the fun. The day ended with a moving presentation by Matt Hiltermann on the vital yet often overlooked role of Métis women in early Calgary. His research inspired many to dive into their own family histories, shining a light on stories that deserve to be remembered. Special thanks to Akak’stiman director Joanne Pinnow and strategy lead Daisy Giroux for organizing this memorable event.

With support, Lubna not only graduated but also became the first Hijab-wearing valedictorian at her school. Now, she’s pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. Lubna’s journey shows what’s possible when we unite to create change.
