I am excited to share my recently published article on various strategies that Career Centres housed in Canadian Universities and Colleges can adopt to support career development of Indian International students on University Affairs | Affaires universitaires (applicable to other students from high context cultures as well). 🎯 How can we better support their career aspirations? By applying the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), postsecondary career centres can offer targeted solutions to these challenges: ✅ Boosting Self-Efficacy: Role models and mentors from the Indian diaspora can inspire confidence by sharing their success stories. ✅ Culturally Sensitive Career Advice: Tailored guidance can help students balance personal goals with family expectations while leveraging their cultural strengths. ✅ Building Networks: Mentorship programs, co-op placements, and networking events can connect students with local professionals and industries. ✅ Career and Immigration Collaboration: Joint workshops with career and immigration advisors can offer comprehensive advice on career paths and immigration options. As educators and professionals, we must recognize that the success of these students not only benefits them but also contributes to economic and cultural growth of Canada.
