About us
The United States Embassy in Ottawa, together with the U.S. Consulates General in Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, represent the government of the United States in Canada. The United States has had an official diplomatic presence in Canada since 1827. The U.S. Ambassador to Canada is the personal representative of the President in conducting official relations between the two countries. The current Ambassador is Ambassador David L. Cohen. The United States and Canada share a 5,500-mile border and one of the closest and most extensive bilateral relationships in the world. The nearly 400,000 people and $1.7 billion worth of goods and services that cross our border every day are a testament to the extent of our economic relationship. Our two countries work closely on multiple levels in fields ranging from security and law enforcement to environmental protection and free trade. In addition to close bilateral ties, the United States and Canada cooperate in multilateral fora, including international efforts to combat terrorist financing and money laundering. The two countries belong to a number of the same international organizations, including the United Nations, NATO, WTO, G7, G20, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Organization of American States, and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

✨ 2024 was an incredible year at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa! From celebrating the Fourth of July with our #FriendsPartnersAllies and commemorating Juneteenth, to fostering innovation through our Entrepreneurship Salons, connecting with students, supporting local causes, and coming together for some memorable hockey events, this year has been full of meaningful moments. We are grateful for the strong U.S.-Canada partnership and the Ottawa community that makes our work so meaningful. Here’s to more shared moments and collaborations in 2025!

The Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF), which ranges from $5,000 to $35,000 USD, supports exchange alumni-led projects that uplift local communities and address mutual U.S.-Canada goals and challenges. Past projects have included closing the gender gap in the tech industry by providing STEM skills for 250 girls from disadvantaged communities in Quebec, introducing Atlantic Canadian high school students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, including space exploration and artificial intelligence, and much, much more. Put together your proposal with your team and your project might be next! Learn more about #AEIF2025 and start your project proposal today: https://lnkd.in/gJxb_CJE

This morning, the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa continued a cherished tradition: the Marine Security Guards’ 18th annual Toys for Tots delivery at Ronald McDonald House Charities Ottawa. Santa Claus himself joined U.S. Ambassador to Canada David L. Cohen, our Marines, and local legend Stuntman Stu to bring smiles, toys, and holiday cheer to the children and families at Ronald McDonald House. This long-standing tradition is at the core of our Embassy’s commitment to giving back to the Ottawa community. We’re proud to support Toys for Tots and the spirit of giving that defines the holiday season.
