  • Yesterday marked the wrap-up of this year’s Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive! The initiative, which is expected to collect more than 118 tons of food for the Sudbury Food Bank, was created 37 years ago by former company employee, Edgar Burton. It has since grown to become one of the largest food drives in Ontario helping thousands of families and individuals in need in the Greater Sudbury Area. Vale Base Metals is very proud to be part of the Sudbury community and to carry on Edgar Burton’s work. This year, we were honoured to partner with Wheaton Precious Metals to donate C$125,000 to the campaign. Additionally, Vale Base Metals employees collectively donated another C$20,000. We would like to thank the many local businesses and schools in the community who supported this year’s food drive, and we would also like to acknowledge our partner in this important initiative, the United Steel Worker Local 6500. #WeAreValeBaseMetals #SudburyOntario #SeasonOfGiving

  • Vale Base Metals CEO Shaun Usmar recently made his first visit to our operations in Brazil. While there, he spent time with leaders and frontline employees in the field, getting a firsthand look at our Salobo, Sossego, and Onça Puma operations. Shaun also toured our operations and tailings monitoring centers in Carajás, and received briefings on key growth projects including Bacaba and Cristalino.   It was a great first visit, an opportunity for Shaun to share his vision for the business, meet our Brazil teams, and get a better understanding of the amazing potential of our copper and nickel assets in Brazil. “I loved seeing the assets, the people, and the potential,” Shaun said shortly after the visit. “And what a beautiful part of the world. It was my first time there, and I can see why people are so passionate about it.” #WeAreValeBaseMetals #Brazil #Mining #CriticalMinerals #EnergyTransitionMetals

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the US$2.94 billion Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion Project in northern Labrador, a major milestone that will increase production of nickel in concentrate to 45,000 tonnes per year (45 ktpy) – a critical mineral essential to security of supply, economic independence and the energy transition.   The expansion includes the development of two underground mines – Reid Brook and Eastern Deeps – which will deliver nickel concentrate for processing at our Long Harbour Processing Plant, one of the lowest-emission nickel processing plants in the world. In addition to the increased nickel production, the project will add 20ktpy of copper and 2.6ktpy of cobalt.   We are proud of our collaborative relationship with Indigenous partners, Innu Nation & Nunatsiavut Government, on whose traditional lands the Voisey’s Bay complex is located. With the expansion, our workforce at Voisey’s Bay has grown to 1,100 direct employees, up from about 600 pre-expansion.   This project underscores our commitment to social and economic growth, local employment, procurement, capacity-building, and shared benefits for our stakeholders. We are excited to continue generating shared value for the business and the people of Newfoundland & Labrador for many years to come.   Thank you to all the teams who helped bring this complex project safely and successfully to completion. Together, we are building a cleaner, greener future.

Today marks Day 2 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This global grassroots campaign, running from November 25 to December 10, aims to raise awareness and inspire action to combat gender-based violence. Living free of harassment, violence and abuse is a human right. However, 1 in 3 women worldwide will experience violence in their lifetime. While progress continues to be made, it is crucial that we take meaningful action to address this statistic. Violence against women and girls is preventable if we work together to change the culture that allows it to happen. By fostering a culture of respect, safety, and care within our industry and beyond, we can create environments where everyone can thrive. This commitment extends to building safe, inclusive and equitable workplaces where women are safe everywhere, always. We urge our communities, stakeholders, industry partners and colleagues to recognize the signs of gender-based violence and continue to take action, speak out and stand up throughout the 16 Days of Activism and beyond. Together, we can make a difference. #16Days #GenderEquality #ImpactThatMatters #WeAreValeBaseMetals

  • Recently, our Long Harbour team was honoured to host ambassadors and high commissioners on site from over 25 countries as part of an economic mission to Newfoundland and Labrador, organized by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada. Innovation and critical minerals were key topics on the agenda, and we proudly showcased how our VNL operations are essential to the global energy transition. Nickel concentrate from our Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador is shipped to Long Harbour via icebreaker, where it is transformed into nickel, cobalt, and copper metal. #DidYouKnow: Our production at Long Harbour is among the least carbon-intensive and highest quality in the world! 🌱 We are excited to continue leading the way in sustainable mining and contributing to a greener, cleaner future. 🔋 #WeAreValeBaseMetals #EnergyTransitionMetals #SustainableMining
