Change in our communities does not happen alone— it accelerates when we work together. 🤝 This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #AccelerateAction, is a call to push beyond awareness and take decisive, collective action. Meet Carly Kalish – 2025 YWCA Toronto Woman of Distinction Award Recipient, Social Justice🎊 We are delighted to announce that Carly Kalish, is being honoured as one of YWCA Toronto’s 2025 Woman of Distinction Award Recipients. Carly is a champion for survivors of human trafficking. Early in her professional career, as a trauma therapist at East Metro Youth Services (EMYS), she saw just how pressing and underrecognized human trafficking was in Toronto. She became a critical ally and counsellor for hundreds of girls and women – many of whom were unaware of the crimes being perpetrated against them. Her knowledge of exploitation and tireless efforts to improve support services led to the formation of an anti-human trafficking coalition of 30 community partners. We invite you to join us in honouring Carly, and five other inspiring women, at the 44th YWCA Toronto Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 27th, at the historic Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. Together, we will honour and celebrate the achievements of remarkable women while raising essential funds for women, girls and gender diverse people in our city. 💙Learn more about Carly Kalish and buy your tickets or table today: www.womenofdistinction.ca #YWCAWOD #YWCAToronto #Toronto #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #IWD2025 #WomenLeaders #InspiringWomen

Statistics show that intimate partner violence (IPV) affects trans, gender-diverse, BIPOC, and gender non-conforming folks at a greater level. Despite these alarmingly high rates, many trans and gender-diverse survivors struggle to get the help that they need. Barriers like discrimination, misgendering, and lack of inclusive shelter prevent them from accessing safety and support. That’s why it’s important to consider intersectionality when addressing IPV in our communities. Race, gender identity, socioeconomic status and disability all impact a survivor’s experience and access to resources. Without inclusive, survivor-centred solutions, the most vulnerable are often left without support. If you or someone you know is a victim of intimate partner violence, we’re here to support you. Give our crisis team a call at 416-808-7066. Our phone lines are open 24/7. #EndIPV #TransWomenDeserveSafety #SupportSurvivors #IntersectionalityMatters #Transwomen #TransgenderCommunity #Toronto #CityofToronto

Have you ever been catcalled or received unwanted sexual or invasive comments in public? 70% of Canadian women experience street harassment before they are 15 and it can happen anytime and anywhere. The fear of being harassed, and how quickly it can escalate, forces many women to change their behaviours just to feel safe. Many avoid going out at night, take longer routes home, or steer clear of certain areas, all to minimize the risk of unwanted attention. It’s time we stop asking women to shoulder the burden of gender-based violence. Instead, we need to hold harassers accountable and challenge the culture that normalizes street harassment. If you or someone you know is a victim of gender-based violence, we’re here to support you. Give our crisis team a call at 416-808-7066. Our phone lines are open 24/7. #StopStreetHarassment #StopTheViolence #AbuseAwareness #GenderBasedViolence #SupportingVictims #HereToHelp #VictimServices

It is with great sadness that we honour the life and legacy of Louis March, who was a part of our School Safety Symposium in 2024. Louis was the Founder of the Zero Gun Violence Movement and campaigned tirelessly for years to eradicate gun violence and provide support for youth in the GTA. He was a passionate advocate for the safety and well-being of youth and his work touched countless lives. We are honoured to have had the opportunity to work with Louis. His legacy will live on through the work of those who continue his mission and the countless lives he has positively impacted. Rest in peace, Louis. 🤍 #ZeroGunViolence #ViolencePrevention #YouthSymposium #YouthEmpowerment
