We recently hosted our first ever Wawanesa University Graduation Summit, recognizing the accomplishments of our emerging and current leaders. Wawanesa University was created to give our employees the tools and resources they need to grow their skills and thrive. At the summit there were:  • 37 managers   • 39 first-time leaders  • 20 aspiring leaders     We’re proud to invest in our people and provide opportunities where they can learn and develop their careers. #WawanesaUniversity

Last week, we partnered with Manitoba Start and OFE - Opportunities for Employment to host a Newcomer Career Kickstarter event at our headquarters. Our People & Culture Team and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) came together to create an event supporting newcomers to Winnipeg as they begin their career journeys in Canada. This event featured a series of workshops on topics like resume building, interview prep and exploring careers in insurance.   At Wawanesa, we believe diversity is our strength, and events like this remind us of the importance of building an inclusive workforce that reflects the vibrant communities we serve. #DEIB #CareersInInsurance. 

We’re proud to have invested $70,000 back into our communities through the efforts of our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Seven charitable organizations have been chosen by our ERGs to each receive $10,000 to drive impactful work supporting equity-deserving communities. • Accessibility Renovations for Kids (ARK) Society  • Story Planet  • Red Door Family Shelter  • Indigenous Women’s Healing Centre  • CanU  • Rainbow Resource Centre  • A Safe Place Through our Community Impact program’s Equity Deserving Diversity Fund, this donation is one more way we can make a meaningful difference in building community resilience. 

Today is International Day for Persons with Disabilities - a day focused on celebrating the contributions, strengths, and perspectives of people living with disabilities, while recognizing the work still needed to be done. At Wawanesa, in partnership with our Abled & Disabled Allies Partnering Together (ADAPT) Employee Resource Group, we were thrilled to welcome Kelly Bron Johnson for an insightful discussion on building inclusive workplaces. Kelly shared best practices for accommodating visible and invisible disabilities, highlighting how inclusivity positively impacts employee well-being, engagement and productivity. The session covered neurodiversity, mental health, and actionable ways to enhance accessibility in the workplace, leaving us with practical tools to foster a culture where everyone can thrive. #IDPD #DisabilityDay

The Women+ of Wawanesa Employee Resource Group (ERG) recently hosted a first of its kind fireside chat with the female members of our Board of Directors, who shared their inspiring career journeys and insights on mentorship, sponsorship, and leadership. With our Board having reached gender parity, we explored the importance of diverse perspectives in Board governance, challenges yet to overcome, and how to build support for women in the workplace.
