Federal government announces more than $1B for clean energy projects in N.B. The federal government has announced just over $1 billion in funding for clean electricity projects in New Brunswick. Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault in Dieppe on Sunday, December 8, for the announcement, said the money would ensure that the province's power grid can keep up with increasing demand. Durham Greener Buildings Spotlight: Celebrating Climate Champions 🥇🏆🌍 Today, as we end the spotlight series celebrating winners of the prestigious Climate Leadership Award, we are thrilled to recognize last but not the least on our climate leadership spotlight list, the Municipality of Clarington. Clarington is one of the trailblazers turning climate challenges into opportunities for change through their inspiring sustainability projects. Their groundbreaking projects is paving the way for a greener Durham and raising the bar for community-driven green initiatives. The Municipality of Clarington emerged as one of the winners of the Climate Leadership Award for their noteworthy Greenhouse Gas Reduction Pathway Study. The Study aims to identify and assess various GHG reduction measures and create a plan to reduce emissions by at least 50% within 10 years and 80% within 20 years. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, aims to decarbonize, enhance energy efficiency, and address aging infrastructure. Project LHEAD focuses on integrated decarbonization measures that boost utility rate resilience and operational flexibility. Durham Greener Buildings Spotlight: Celebrating Climate Champions 🥇🏆🌍 As we continue to celebrate winners of the prestigious Climate Leadership Award in this second and final part of the spotlight series, we are thrilled to recognize the third on our climate leadership spotlight list. The City of Oshawa is one of the trailblazers in Durham turning climate challenges into opportunities for change through their inspiring sustainability projects. The City of Oshawa emerged as one of the winners of the Climate Leadership award for their Rotary Park Redevelopment project. The new park will provide sustainable infrastructure, and promote an uptake of environmentally responsible building practices. The annual operational footprint of the new facility is estimated at approximately three tonnes. Additional targeted improvements to the facility include ongoing reduction in Scope 2 Emission Factors that will allow for registration of the building under the Zero Carbon Building Performance Standard. This groundbreaking project is paving the way for a greener Durham and raising the bar for community-driven green initiatives.
