Last month, we were at the #WorldUrbanFourm in Egypt! The key takeaways from #WUF12: 1- Local governments are crucial for achieving #SDG11! At World Vision, we already collaborate with local leaders and organizations, but WUF highlighted the need for stronger connections between local, federal and international bodies to scale innovations. 2- In fragile areas, community-led maps and census data can be lifesaving in disasters, preventing disputes and aiding recovery. We’re committed to equipping local communities with tools to build resilience and drive progress toward SDG11. 3- Children and Youth are leading the way! The WUF12 Child and Youth forums brought together the voices of young people worldwide. We are committed to raising the voices of young people and encouraging world leaders to truly listen to them. When leaders collaborate with young people, innovative futures are created.

At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan (Nov 11-23), significant commitments were made to support climate action. Our very own Alicia Lopez contributed as an expert speaker at two side events, sharing insights on nature-based solutions, FMNR, climate-smart agriculture and the role of smallholder farmers in fragile settings. We emphasized the importance of locally-led adaptation, faith leaders’ involvement and sustainable agrifood systems in tackling hunger. We supported World Vision International's climate advocacy for children, focusing on: - Ambitious Climate Action: Keeping the 1.5°C goal alive through stronger mitigation and emissions reduction. - Child-Centered Approaches: Empowering children and youth, especially the most vulnerable, as agents of change. - Climate Resilience: Building sustainable, climate-resilient agri-food systems, leveraging nature-based solutions. - Climate Finance: Ensuring accessible, transparent and inclusive climate finance. - Loss and Damage: Addressing the intergenerational injustice of climate-induced loss, advocating for reparations for children in crisis situations. We are proud to be part of these critical conversations and remain committed to creating a sustainable future.

In South Sudan, cows are more than animals—they’re a vital store of wealth and a cultural symbol of status. While beef isn’t eaten here, cows play a crucial role in stabilizing the livelihoods of families in a country without easily accessible traditional banking. In this episode of On the Road, we delve into the unique value of cattle and their importance to the people of South Sudan. Their story sheds light on the ways communities adapt and thrive in challenging environments. Find this perspective insightful? Hens and roosters: a simple gift with extraordinary impact. For families living in fragile countries, owning a hen can provide up to 250 eggs a year and essential nutrients for growing children. Surplus eggs bring a steady source of income, while flocks grow naturally, ensuring long-term sustainability. This giving season, give a gift that improves lives. https://bit.ly/40CzcMg #WorldVisionCanada #hens #roosters
