Co-operative education is synonymous with the University of Waterloo. It’s one of the innovations that the University was founded on more than 60 years ago. Today, our incomparable co-operative education program is the reason 70% of incoming undergraduate students choose Waterloo. But our department is more than co-op. At Co-operative and Experiential Education (CEE), we value work-integrated learning and experiential education as much as co-op. Through activities such as lab experiences, internships, and practicum placements we strive to give students at the University of Waterloo the capacity to have the very best impact on their career, and the future of the Canadian and overseas workforce.

When working with Indigenous peoples, remember that colonial perspectives differ from Indigenous ways of knowing and being. This can impact learning and communication styles as well as project management or approach. Bear in mind that: ✔ Indigenous perspectives often focus on interconnectedness with people, plants, animals and the land. ✔ There is no single perspective. Place, experiences, ceremonies and community shapes different perspectives. ✔ Indigenous perspectives consider each action's social and environmental impacts - guided by responsibility. ✔ Indigenous worldviews have existed for generations and are equal to western views. ✔ Facilitate workplace discussions and participate in training sessions to improve your understanding. #UWaterlooCoop #Coop #EDIR

Meet Qamar M.! She is a second-year Pharmacy student who managed to land pharmacy co-ops before starting her degree! Qamar also speaks about the amazing impact she's had on her community, from spreading awareness about Ramadan to helping people understand their medication. “Working in the health care field is extremely rewarding. You gain firsthand experience assisting patients who actively seek your expertise. You also get to apply the knowledge that you learned in school.” "It was especially rewarding when patients explicitly mentioned that I was helpful or said “Oh, now I understand what my medication is for”. Many patients are on medications without either knowing their purpose, how to use them correctly or what the common side effects are. AGF is philanthropic organization empowering Emirati and Arab Youth through education and upskilling. Together with Co-operative and Experiential Education at University of Waterloo, we discussed opportunities for collaborations between the Foundation and University of Waterloo including embracing work-integrated learning, building strong ecosystems for work-integrated learning through government, academia, and industry partnerships, and ensuring graduates are future-ready.
