Last month at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community in Geneva, Jessie E., Dataminr VP of Social Good and Nonprofit Partnerships, joined fellow panelists from World Vision, boldcode_, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and the Global Mentoring Initiative to discuss ‘Adapting for the Future: Skills, tools and technologies in conflict-affected contexts.’ The dynamic conversation touched on how technologies can support staff capacity in humanitarian settings while mitigating risk and exposure. Jessie shared insights on the use of responsible and appropriate technology in augmenting human-led humanitarian and human rights work, highlighting examples from Dataminr’s AI for Good program. The NRC participated in AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community, the world's leading event for humanitarian aid and disaster relief, which provided us with valuable opportunities for meaningful discussions with private sector partners.   We engaged in a session on how to scale innovation projects with private sector partners like WhatsApp, Innovation Norway and Accenture, and joined a fireside chat hosted by CV VC alongside Coala Pay to discuss our pilot project in Somalia and Sudan, among other topics.   The private sector is instrumental in solving the challenges in humanitarian aid today. We would also like to thank our panellists from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, 510 - The Netherlands Red Cross' data & digital team, and European Commission - ECHO for joining us on stage and contributing to the discussions.

Black Space Technology recently exhibited at #AidEx2024 #Geneva, connecting with fellow innovators and global leaders in #HumanitarianAid and #DisasterRelief. Our team, led by Marie-Laure ANTOINE - BICKEL (Business Development Manager), demonstrated the #RapidEPR #telemedicine platform and explored solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in delivering aid to remote and conflict-affected areas. This year's theme, 'Revitalising Humanitarian Assistance – How do we deliver better aid in conflict-affected hot spots?' fostered powerful conversations and collaborative ideas for improving aid delivery in complex environments. It was inspiring to engage with participants from United Nations agencies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, and other local and international NGOs dedicated to advancing humanitarian efforts worldwide. Two weeks ago, we co-hosted an AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community side-event, in partnership with the HIFHUB - hosted by the Danish Red Cross and Aon, on “Bridging Finance and Fieldwork: Innovating for Impact” to explore innovative finance solutions for humanitarian needs, particularly examining blended finance to address the critically widening humanitarian funding gap.     Key takeaways include the following:    💡 Blended finance can offer a pathway to tap into the estimated $470 trillion in global private assets, much of which is concentrated in high-income countries, by channelling it to underserved regions and reduce investment risks in high-impact, high-risk areas.     💡 Public, private, and humanitarian actors are all part of a long-term shift, and all stakeholders need to be involved early in the process to develop a shared vision and solution, to ensure effective collaboration.    💡 While blended finance holds great promise, scaling impact requires a pipeline of investable projects. Developing this pipeline requires coordinated efforts among stakeholders and an evidence-based approach that can attract private investment.     When used thoughtfully, blended finance can unlock new resources, mobilise private capital, and catalyse sustainable, long-term change in addressing the growing humanitarian crisis.     Our gratitude to all speakers and moderators who brought their knowledge, time, and insights to the sessions. 🌍 We are still reflecting on the impactful discussions from AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community. 🚀 One of the key takeaways from this year was the growing emphasis on #innovation and #sustainability. It’s clear that leveraging sustainable and advanced solutions is critical for enhancing the efficiency and impact of humanitarian efforts. 💼 A highlight for us was the "Procurement for Change" workshop. This session underscored how strategic procurement can be a game-changer in our sector. We had over 90 people attending this workshop that included both panels and a practical, innovation-friendly procurement exercise. 💡 We look forward to applying these insights as we continue to develop products to ensure sustainable access to light and energy.
