[𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 & 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮] The Humanitarian Leadership Academy (represented by Janet Nyaoro and Randa Alturabi) is in Addis Ababa at the Humanitarian Operations and Preparedness Workshop from 26-28 November, a critical component of the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) funded project aimed at strengthening the capacity of local actors to respond effectively to humanitarian needs, specifically relating to BHA-funded initiatives. In welcoming remarks, Charles Wanjuie, BHA Director Save the Children in Ethiopia highlighted vital roles of local partners in the #localisation process, emphasizing the need for readiness in leading humanitarian responses. 37 representatives from 10 partner organisations are attending from regions in #Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Somalia, Afar, Amhara, Oromia). Day one partner reflections show enthusiasm on learning about Sphere Standards and gaining relevant tools. This workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of humanitarian operations in Ethiopia and will continue in 2025. #ProfessionalDevelopment #HumanitarianOperations #HLACommunity #SphereStandards

✔️ We delivered 4 trainings on 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 across #Poland! Save the Children Poland and Humanitarian Leadership Academy collaborated to provide a 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮-𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙎𝙋𝘼𝘾𝙀. This initiative aims to strengthen the technical capacity of Child Protection in Emergencies (#CPiE) practitioners in Poland. In total, the project has reached 22 local NGOs and 10 schools so far. The workshops took place in Rzeszów, Koninki, Warszawa and Kolce. They covered a wide range of essential child protection topics such as the development and needs of adolescents, support for adolescents with refugee experience, intercultural integration, prevention and response to violence towards adolescents, and more. Our experienced colleagues shared practical tips on creating an inclusive space for children and adolescents. 🤝 The project also organised networking opportunities such as Child Protection Morning Coffees and supported the growth of the Community of Practice, which now includes 12 locally-led NGOs from across the country, with more ready to join. 📅 We plan to deliver five more child protection workshops in the upcoming months and look forward to sharing more about them.

✨ Spotlight on Humanitarian Operations Programme (HOP) Core training in Nepal #Nepal has long been recognised as a high-risk area for #climate-induced crises and #humanitarian emergencies. That's why the HLA Asia Pacific Regional Centre is collaborating with Save the Children Nepal through the Humanitarian Operations Programme (HOP) Core training to bolster efforts to prioritise capacity strengthening initiatives to enhance community-level resilience, particularly with local civil society organisations. 💬 Reflecting on this training series, the HLA's Lennox Maharjan, Regional Humanitarian Capacity Building Programme Officer based in Nepal said: "Seeing how the Nepal team adapted the HOP content to fit the local context was impressive. This training truly reinforced our commitment to localisation." Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities through partnership and collaboration. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life (source: UN Women). Trans women face higher rates of violence and exclusion from services due to fear and stigma (International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC). During crises, the risk escalates, demanding nuanced and equitable #humanitarian action. 🛑 Today, November 25 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and marks the launch of the #UNiTE campaign, which aims to end this pervasive violation of human rights. With the support from Syrian Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Syria Relief, and Save the Children Syria Response Office, our Middle East & North Africa (MENA) regional team delivered 𝗪𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 training in Gaziantep, #Türkiye. 👩🎓 29 people from Northwest Syria WASH Cluster partner organisations attended this five-day training and gained essential knowledge and skills for integrating WASH programming in emergencies. ❇️ The training focuses on three main areas: linking WASH with health, nutrition, education, and market-based programming; addressing climate change challenges; and conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA). Additionally, participants gain insights into Market-Based Programming (MBP) strategies to develop sustainable, context-appropriate interventions. 🤝 The training will also enable the participants to cascade this knowledge to their field teams, enhancing the quality and impact of WASH interventions. 💻 One month after the training, we will conduct a follow-up online session for participants to discuss challenges they encounter while applying what they've learned and continue to receive support and advice. #WASH #WASHinEmergencies #NorthwestSyria
