🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 The AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is thrilled to announce that our new Vice Director Prof. Martin Stoddart, PhD has been elected to the #ORS Board of Directors as the Education Council Chair, starting on February 11th. He is looking forward to contributing to the advancement of education in the orthopaedic field and working with such a distinguished group of professionals. Additionally, we are honoured to share that Prof. Stoddart has been re-elected as a Member-at-Large for TermisEU2025. This is a testament to his outstanding contributions and dedication to the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Prof. Martin Stoddart, PhD has an impressive career, currently serving as the Program Leader of the Regenerative Orthopaedics Program at the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI). He has made significant advancements in the use of autologous #MSCs and mechanoregulation for the repair of musculoskeletal tissues. His research has led to the discovery of novel clinically relevant biomarkers and targets, and he has authored over 180 scientific papers and book chapters. Thank you for your continued support! Established 1959, AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) aims to: • Contribute to high quality applied preclinical research and development (exploratory and translational) focused towards clinical applications/solutions. • Investigate and improve the performance of surgical procedures, devices, and substances. • Foster a close relationship with the AO medical community, academic societies, and universities. • Provide research environment/support for AO clinicians. All AO Research Institute Davos projects are applied preclinical research or applied preclinical development projects focused towards clinical applications. Definitions (within the applied research): • Exploratory applied preclinical research is fundamental research, to solve major clinical problems over an extended timeframe (over ten years). • Translational applied preclinical research aims at developing a clinical applicable result in around five years and builds upon the fundamental applied preclinical research. This research is usually not possible without the previous fundamental applied preclinical research.

We would like to congratulate Prof. Martin Stoddart, PhD for his new role at AO Foundation as Vice Director of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI). Martin has been with us for just over 20 years (cumulated) and is well known in the fields of stem cell research, cartilage, bone and connecting them all through mechano-biology. he also remains Program Leader of the Regenerative Orthopaedics Program at ARI. He is Professor at the Medical Faculty, Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg, D and honorary Professor at Keele, UK. He has just been elected onto the Orthopaedic Research Society Board of Directors and re-elected as member at large for the Governing Board of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, Inc. (TERMIS). He is also on the steering committee of the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies (ICORS) where he is also a Fellow of the society. He has published over 160 papers with a h index of 49. On behalf of ARI I congratulate him in his new role Prof. R. We congratulate Dr. Ivan Zderic PhD for his promotion to Focus Area Leader of Biomechanics and Modelling. Ivan has developed extremely well in the last 14 years from a student to Junior project leader up to senior project leader, achieving his PhD within this time and numerous publications . He is an excellent choice for this position and we wish him well. We also wish to congratulate Dr. Ursula Menzel PhD for her promotion to be Focus Area Leader of the newly formed Laboratory facilities team. We wish to congratulate Peter Varga with his promotion from Focus Area leader of Biomechanics and Modelling to Program Leader Biomedical Development as of January 1st 2025. Peter has been with the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) for over a decade and has had worked on many projects.
