Are extensive automated integration tests really worth it? 🤔 Some devs say it's a waste, as small changes can break tests and maintenance becomes painful. They prefer manual tests: stable, human-driven, but time-consuming. Others swear by automation — arguing that manual tests are too slow, lack immediacy, and can't keep up with frequent changes. At AxLabs, in the world of Web3 (nodes, smart contracts, complex backends & frontends), automated integration tests are crucial. We don't cover 100% of the product, but enough to bring confidence in rolling out new features/changes. They help us catch issues early, despite the complexity of dependencies.
