What an Incredible Week! 🌍 This week marked a significant milestone for #Kosova on the global stage. During the World Economic Forum (WEF) week in Davos, Kosova proudly signed the Free Trade Agreement with EFTA countries. This agreement strengthens our ties with key European partners, especially #Switzerland, a key market for Kosova’s exporting industries. It opens new opportunities for trade, economic growth, and collaboration, further solidifying our presence in the global economy. Adding to this historic achievement, the House Of Kosova stood out as a remarkable initiative that took center stage during the WEF week in Davos. It provided an extraordinary platform to showcase Kosova's vibrant culture, innovative businesses, and ambitious vision for the future. From groundbreaking entrepreneurs to rich artistic expressions, the House Of Kosova embodied the determination and creativity that define our nation, as well as the warmth and hospitality for which #Kosova is already known. A special and heartfelt appreciation goes to LIKA Group AG and its founder, Esat Likaj, whose exceptional support and belief in Kosova’s potential were instrumental in the success of this initiative. Their leadership and commitment are a shining example of how impactful partnerships can drive success. Further appreciation deserves the other sponsors who made this initiative possible: Hib Petrol, SPEEEX, Solariss LLC, Gjini Home, Nuka Home, Bodrumi i Vjetër, de Sede AG, Garden Care, and Mokne. Their invaluable contributions and shared vision were essential in showcasing Kosova to the world. Additionally, the role of the Kosovar diaspora in Switzerland deserves recognition. The success stories of our diaspora serve as an inspiration to all, and their active engagement in initiatives like the House Of Kosova strengthens the connection between our communities and amplifies Kosova's voice on the global stage. This week has reaffirmed Kosova’s position as a country that is ready to innovate, collaborate, and thrive. Together, we are building bridges, creating opportunities, and defining a future of shared prosperity. 💡 Let’s continue to celebrate and support Kosova's journey! #Kosova #WEF2025 #HouseOfKosova #EFTA #Diaspora

ABB and Škoda Group join forces for railway electrification Zurich/Plzen - The Skoda Group has ordered 195 Pro 8C-850 battery packs from ABB. These are to be installed in the battery-electric multiple units developed by Skoda for use on the railways in #Czechia. The contract marks the beginning of a long-term cooperation between the two partners. ABB and the Skoda Group are supporting České dráhy, a.s., the state-owned operating company of Czech railways, in its efforts to electrify the country’s railways. To this end, the Zurich-based technology company and the rail vehicle manufacturer based in the Czech city of Plzen have entered into a long-term partnership, as ABB writes in a press release. In a first step, ABB will supply Skoda with a total of 195 Pro 8C-850 battery packs, which are intended for use in the battery-electric multiple units (BEMUs) ordered by Ceske drahy from Skoda. Above and beyond the delivery of the battery systems, the first contract between Skoda and ABB comprises a service agreement set to run for 15 years. “This partnership with Škoda Group represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide immediately available, energy-efficient solutions for railway operators”, as Edgar Keller, President of the ABB Traction Division, explains in the press release. “Our Pro Battery Series is an ideal solution to meet the demands of partially electrified networks, offering operators a proven option for reducing emissions while maintaining operational efficiency. Zdenek Svata, COO of the Skoda Group, states that his company is seeking to support “the railway industry’s commitment to a net zero future” through this partnership with ABB. He adds that ABB’s Traction Battery Pro represents “the perfect addition for our innovative BEMUs, as we help Ceske drahy bring a cleaner, quieter service”. No details regarding the financial volume of the contract were divulged in the press release. EFTA secures free trade with #Kosovo Davos - Together with the other EFTA states, Swiss Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin has signed a free trade agreement with Kosovo on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Switzerland expects that this will increase the bilateral trade volume from its current level of 140 million Swiss francs. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and representatives of the other states within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, have signed a free trade agreement with Kosovo. The ratification on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos included Kosovo’s Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. According to a press release from the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), this latest free trade agreement largely resembles the contracts that EFTA has concluded with third parties recently. The information provided states that it has a comprehensive sectoral scope and includes provisions on trade in goods, technical barriers to trade, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures. It also comprises trade facilitation, trade in services, the protection of intellectual property, competition, trade and sustainable development, as well as legal and horizontal provisions.
