The timing of our information and stakeholder workshop “Getting ready for the EU Forced Labour Regulation #EUFLR” couldn’t have been better: Just two days after the EU Council of Ministers approved of the EUFLR, CDE researchers and members of the Swiss Sustainability Platforms for cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, and textiles, came together to discuss what the EUFLR is, what it means for companies, and what challenges might await in its full implementation in late 2027. The first in a workshop series on “Regulation Readiness”, this workshop featured a mix of presentations by the ILO, SECO and CDE researchers, followed by group work to ✅ Provide in-depth insights into the regulation and its implications for Swiss businesses. ✅ Kickstart a multi-stakeholder dialogue for timely adaptation to these regulatory changes Thanks to all who contributed and participated. Franz Christian Ebert at International Labour Organization, Andreas Oeschger at SECO Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, CDE researchers Gabi Sonderegger, Maurice Tschopp, Vanessa Jaiteh, sabin bieri, and Vincent Aggrey as well as the Swiss Sustainability Initiatives: Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa, Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform , Soja Netzwerk Schweiz, Palmöl Netzwerk Schweiz, and Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030. #DueDiligence #SwissBusiness #ForcedLabour

Though often misunderstood as a cause of deforestation and carbon emissions, research shows: Shifting cultivation practiced by the #Indigenous Naga people in the mountains of Northwest #Myanmar is a sustainable practice that supports communities and ecosystems. Even more: With their culturally rooted shifting cultivation, the Naga not only protect nature, but also demonstrate that their customary land tenure system also fulfils important socio-economic functions.
