Dear Colleagues, From September to November the Special Rapporteur on Climate Change and Human Rights carried out a series of consultations, with States, UN agencies, children and other stakeholders exchanging ideas on possible topics for her next thematic reports. A brief reflection of these consultations, with contributions from over 300 participants across the six continental regions of the world, has also been published now. CRCnct facilitated a consultation in collaboration with its Working Group on children's rights and the environment between the SR and a group of children engaged in environmental projects with several member CSOs. This consultation was well received, with the SR stating it was one of the highlights of her first 8 months in office. These consultations with children revealed 3 strategic priorities for the SR; 1. Implementation of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child General Comment No. 26. on children's rights and climate change 2. The impact of climate change on children's rights to health, food and good standard of life (also covering hunger and poverty) 3. Safe participation of children in climate policy-making, advocacy and activism Additionally, through these consultations, children expressed a strong need to highlight and urged for decision makers to take action on; 1. Climate education in schools, access to information and participation of children in innovative projects and climate research 2. Unequal access to new technologies and the energy transition 3. Discrimination in the context of climate change The impact of climate change on children in vulnerable situations To learn more about the outcomes of this consultation, please find here the everyone-friendly summary: https://lnkd.in/dcEw-aP8 Elisa Morgera World Vision Environment Africa Zambia Child Rights International Network - CRIN Save the Children en El Salvador Defence for Children International - International Secretariat Jeunes Volontaires pour l'environnement - côte d'ivoire
