What makes a carbon credit high quality? Not all carbon credits are created equal. To truly make a difference, companies need to invest in high-quality carbon credits—those that meet stringent standards for ➡️ Additionality: the project removes CO₂ beyond what would happen otherwise ➡️ Permanence: the impact lasts over time ➡️ Leakage: not associated with social or environmental harm ➡️ Exclusivity: no double-counting ➡️ Verifiable: the claimed reduction is accurate At Climeworks, we're proud to lead the way: our ORCA plant is the world’s first Direct Air Capture project to earn an AAA rating from BeZero Carbon, setting a new benchmark in permanence and traceability. This means businesses can trust that every credit they purchase makes a verified, lasting impact. Curious about how Climeworks is raising the bar in #CarbonRemoval? Actions speak louder than words – in business, in climate action, and in love. #ValentinesDay is a good time to turn words into impact. Because building a future together means more than saying you care about it. It's true in business: successful companies don't just talk about innovation – they invest in it. It's true in climate action: real change does not come from promises only, but from tangible steps forward. And it's especially true in our personal lives: showing we care matters more than merely saying it. Carbon removal is a unique opportunity to align personal gestures with real impact. Thanks a Ton's Valentine's cards with built-in carbon removal pair heartfelt messages with tangible climate action. Make impact part of your love story. https://lnkd.in/eE3TzU6X #sustainability #climateaction #carbonremoval #Climeworks #Pioneers

Our mobile test facility has made it safely through deep Icelandic winter to its final location and has already started testing: a testament to the speedy and precise commissioning power of our Climeworks engineers. In October last year, weather-protective housing was completed. In November, the deployment site was confirmed. In December, it was packaged up and transported from Switzerland to Iceland. Installation and commissioning required just two weeks. Now reliable cold temperature/high humidity data is already being delivered daily and analyzed by our process development teams. This data, alongside learnings from our Generation 2 technology, enhances our understanding of field operation and is crucial to optimizing design strategies for our current Generation 3 technology. [Background: rigorous testing remains the backbone of Climeworks’ technology leadership. So we can test thoroughly in a diverse range of conditions and climates, we developed a mobile test facility—the world’s first—that can travel nearly anywhere to test.] #techleadership #DAC #CarbonRemoval

What exactly is a carbon credit? A carbon credit is a tradeable certificate representing one metric ton (1,000 kg) of CO₂ removed, reduced or avoided. For instance, Climeworks captures CO₂ from the air, and our partner Carbfix stores it underground permanently, turning it into stone. Our high-quality credits provide businesses with the assurance that their carbon credits are real, verifiable, and durable. When companies buy carbon credits, they’re supporting innovative climate solutions and playing a key role in the global effort to fight climate change. It's official: interim removal targets are making their way into the Science Based Targets initiative's Corporate Net-Zero Standard! SBTi is currently revising its flagship standard that guides companies in setting science-based net-zero targets. Moving forward, the standard will require companies to set interim removal targets. This means that in addition to reducing emissions, companies will need to demonstrate a ramp-up in their purchase of removals on the path to net zero. Why is this update getting so much attention? Interim targets are a powerful tool to accelerate the scale-up of carbon removal to the levels needed to reach net zero. Simply put, interim targets create the demand needed today to reach gigaton-level supply in the future. The release of the draft standard is expected in March and we're looking forward to diving into all the details. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e9ctnfZW #Climeworks #SBTi #CarbonRemoval #NetZero

Last week, the Climeworks team was in Amsterdam for The Economist's very first summit dedicated to carbon removal and carbon capture. Our VP, Hussein Dhanani, shared the stage alongside Alexander Farsan from Klarna, Nicolas Clerget from Heineken, Piera Patrizio from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Alexandros Theodoropoulos from Philips, Megan Hunold from ClimeFi, and Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran, from the Economist. During the panel discussion on "A buyer’s perspective: carbon removal and corporate sustainability strategy", he demonstrated that "corporates who start their carbon removal journey today are not just climate smart, they're business smart". The day before, we had the honor of organizing a high-level dinner with a group of climate leaders, co-hosted with the Embassy of Switzerland in the Netherlands. We were privileged to hear inspiring remarks from H.E. Ambassador Corinne Cicéron Bühler and Emily Jackson-Kessler from the Economist, one of the pioneering companies who has been removing carbon dioxide with Climeworks since 2021. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to these meaningful conversations. Together, we are paving the way for a robust carbon removal market, unlocking a trillion dollars' worth of economic opportunities. #CarbonRemoval #NetZero

From data to carbon: the next great transformation is here. Just as AI turned information management into economic opportunity, carbon removal is turning climate action into prosperity. The future isn't something we predict—it's something we build. Bill Gates once observed: "We overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten." This rings especially true today, as we witness the rapid evolution of both AI and carbon removal technologies. What AI did for data, we're doing for carbon: turning an invisible challenge into a visible opportunity. Like AI, carbon removal is creating new markets, new jobs, and new possibilities—transforming our economy while protecting our planet. The carbon removal landscape is evolving rapidly, from nature-based solutions strengthening our land to engineered approaches driving scalable innovation. Each breakthrough creates high-skilled jobs, attracts private investment, and makes our economies more resilient while building a clean, prosperous future. Don't watch from the sidelines. Direct Air Capture (#DAC) is emerging as a key tool in the fight against climate change, but scaling it from concept to reality requires careful planning, investment, and innovation. At Climeworks, we’ve successfully built and operated DAC plants, removing more CO₂ than any other company in the field. Our experience with Orca and Mammoth in Iceland has shown that a structured, phased approach—from R&D to steady-state operations—is crucial for success. Learn more about the key stages of building a DAC plant. #ClimateAction #Sustainability #NetZero #CarbonRemoval
