What an inspiring week! Less then two weeks after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on research and innovation between 🇳🇱 and 🇨🇭, a Swiss delegation on life sciences & health visited the Netherlands! A nice example of a concrete activity on fostering the collaboration between both our ecosystems in striving towards a sustainable healthcare system. A key question in this is how to bring excellent academic research to the market and develop accessible healthcare solutions. With visits to Dutch biotechnology hubs like Leiden Bio Science Park and Utrecht Science Park and the Dutch Life Sciences conference great enterpreneurial examples on personalised medication, cell therapy manufacturing & logistics, crossovers from hightech materials to healthcare, regenerative medicine and organ-on-chip technology have been shared. During the interactive sessions ideas for further sharing knowledge along the chain of validation and possible joint projects have been discussed. Looking forward to continue the life sciences & health journey together with our Dutch and Swiss partners in 2025! 🌱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲? 🌱 This was the central question we tried to tackle last Thursday with a diverse group of professionals in the field of sustainability. The conversation was dynamic and revealed that the answer is not that simple. It all starts with measuring and understanding the environmental footprint of healthcare facilities. Did you know that Switzerland is home to 11 Dutch Associations, 4 Dutch Business Round Tables and 5 Honorary Consuls? 🇳🇱🤝   Last night, we welcomed all the board members of these organizations and the honorary consuls for a diner at the Dutch Residency. This evening was our way of thanking them for all the great work they do. Over a traditional ‘stamppot’ meal, we had the chance to catch-up, hear about the fantastic activities they organize and learned more about the networks they have built with Dutch people living in Switzerland.   A big thank you to all the board members of these organizations and our honorary consuls. Swiss Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and a delegation from the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER & State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI came to the Netherlands for a working visit all about #trade and #innovation. This laid the foundation for the first ever Swiss-Dutch Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) of experts from science foundations, #universities, #TVET organisations and #innovation networks from both countries. - At the Port of Rotterdam, he met with representatives of the Port authority and with Swiss companies operating in the Netherlands. CH & NL are key economic partners. Over 620 #Swiss companies operate in the Netherlands creating over 42’000 jobs. We thank the Federal Councillor for the visit and all the involved institutions for the fruitful exchanges. We worked on this for a considerable period of time, Jacques Ducrest and Rick Slettenhaar and many others can testify to it, but we are very happy that the🇨🇭🇳🇱 memorandum of understanding on innovation, education, science, research and technology cooperation now finally and officially has seen the light💡 of day! Hopefully this signing ceremony is a starting point for further strengthening our already very close cooperation. 🇨🇭 and 🇳🇱 are both innovation leaders and small, but knowledge intensive countries. If we continue to invest in our knowledge infrastructure, in science, research, education, in international cooperation, together we can achieve great innovations and find sustainable solutions in many areas that are relevant for both our societies such as in life sciences and health. Today is the 50th anniversary of the death of Swiss-Dutch composer #FrankMartin. Born in Geneva, Martin worked and lived most of his live in the Netherlands. This year, many activities are organized in Switzerland and the Netherlands to commemorate this great - and unfortunately in the Netherlands not sufficiently known - composer. Today there are commemoration concerts in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany (https://lnkd.in/eWE7t4zA). The Frank Martin Foundation in the Netherlands and the Frank Martin Odyssey project led by conductor Thierry Fischer in Genève (odysseefrankmartin.ch) organized many events throughout the anniversary year dedicated to Frank Martin’s impressive heritage. Yesterday my Swiss colleague in the Netherlands Corinne Cicéron Bühler organised a special concert in her Residence, a few weeks ago I had the honour to do the same with a wonderful performance by Dutch pianist Thomas Beijer and Swiss classical guitarist Raoul Morat.
