✨ New blog post out now on the Energy Blog, hosted by the Energy Science Center, ETH Zurich. How can cities create urban sustainability plans that truly resonate with their residents? A new study by ETH Zürich highlights a critical gap: while 72% of residents in eight European cities support sustainable development, their immediate concerns—like cost of living, public health, and poverty—often differ from policy priorities focused on long-term ecological goals. This latest Energy Blog post by Michael Wicki and David Kaufmann dives into: 🔹 Why aligning policy with residents’ priorities is crucial for equitable urban transitions. 🔹 How addressing core human needs lays the groundwork for successful and democratically supported transformations. 🔹 What lessons can be drawn from the perspectives of 5,800 residents across diverse cities. 📝 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eFmV2MzS We’d love to hear your thoughts—how can policymakers better align with the needs of residents? Share your insights below! 👇 #EnergyBlog #UrbanSustainability #SustainableDevelopment #JustTransition #EnergyTransition ETH Raumentwicklung und Stadtpolitik – SPUR Netzwerk Stadt und Landschaft (NSL), ETH Zürich

The Energy Science Center (ESC) aims to facilitate the deployment of an environmentally friendly, reliable, low risk, economically viable and socially compatible sustainable energy system. The ESC enhances cooperation between ETH Zurich, industry, government, and society on energy related issues, offering a platform for nourishing the exchange of information between the engineering sciences and the social sciences as well as for directing joint projects. The ESC synergistically combines key expertise in various disciplines to address large-scale problems successfully and to form flagship projects. These programmes will be large, financially intensive projects that have a visibility far beyond ETH Zurich and should promote energy research to a large extent.

ETH Zurich Industry Relations #EnergyTransition

During his time at ETH Zürich as a Visiting Professor, Thomas Cooper, Associate Professor at Lassonde School of Engineering - York University, will be giving a talk on optical measurement techniques in thermal energy systems as part of the KTF Colloquium series, hosted by Aldo Steinfeld. The Kolloquium Thermo- und Fluiddynamik (KTF) is a series of lectures dedidacted to the broad field of thermo and fluid dynamics. Don't miss the talk! 🗓️ 25 November 2024 🕓 16.15 – 17.15h 📍 ETH Zürich, ML F 39 More information: https://lnkd.in/eSGtJMzz #ThermalEnergySystems
I am very excited to be spending this semester of my sabbatical at ETH Zürich as a Visiting Professor! A very special thanks to my host, Prof. Aldo Steinfeld, for making this possible, and for providing access to the amazing experimental facilities of the PREC lab. The rooftop “solar mini-refinery” concentrator/reactor facility is pictured behind us in the photo below. I am looking forward to working on some exciting new solar thermal and solar fuels research projects over the next few months. https://prec.ethz.ch/

✨ New blog post out now on the Energy Blog, hosted by the Energy Science Center. How can governments design carbon removal policies that are both effective and supported by the public? In her latest blog post, Susanne Rhein delves into a public opinion study with 3,000 participants in Switzerland and the UK, co-authored by Professor Thomas Bernauer. The study reveals: ✅ Citizens prioritize durable CO₂ removal methods, even if they are more expensive. 🇨🇭 In Switzerland, support for costly, durable policies was 14% higher than for temporary, cheaper alternatives. ⚡ But there’s a challenge: the public wants immediate action, while experts emphasize the need for pilot programs to refine policies. ⚖️ Policymakers must find ways to balance urgency with credibility to craft solutions that work and maintain public trust. Read the full blog post on the Energy Blog and subscribe for the newsletter for more content on energy and science! 📖 #ETHZurich #EnergyBlog #NetZero #CarbonRemoval #ClimateAction #Sustainability ETH Zurich | Institute of Science, Technology and Policy (ISTP) ETH Zürich, Center for International and Comparative Studies CIS https://lnkd.in/eazWZf7h

👉 https://lnkd.in/gQWMAxZK (€) #veranstaltung #ethenergyweek #elcom #schweiz
