Silvia Quarteroni était vendredi dernier l'invitée de l'émission CQFD de la RTS. 🎙️ Experte en IA, elle est la directrice de la transformation et de l’innovation du Swiss Data Science Center. L'émission a permis d'échanger autour des applications concrètes de l'IA en Suisse, notamment dans le domaine de la santé, de l'énergie et l'humanitaire, mais aussi de revenir sur les fondements techniques de ces technologies. Silvia Quarteroni est diplômée de l’EPFL en informatique et a reçu un Alumni Award de la part de l'Ecole en 2024. #ProudOfOurAlumnae #AI

🚀 Congratulations to three startups co-founded by EPFL graduates on securing digital support from the FIT - Fondation pour l'Innovation Technologique biped.ai has been awarded a CHF 200,000 Digital Growth loan to help expand NOA, a shoulder-worn harness, designed to improve mobility for visually impaired individuals, with wide angle cameras and multiple features. Co-founded by EPFL graduates Paul Prevel and Bruno Vollmer, they will use the loan to grow their distribution network and take NOA to new markets. Synature AG received a Digital Seed loan of CHF 50,000 to develop the identification of threatened species using intelligent microphones coupled with advanced algorithms. Co-founded by CEO and alumnus Olivier Stähli, the company is finalizing the development of its beta version of the microphones designing them for use in extreme natural conditions, thanks to this loan. châtaigne has been awarded a Digital Grant of CHF 20,000 to enhance its alternative meal delivery services. Using AI-powered technology integrated with WhatsApp, Châtaigne allows restaurants to sell their products commission-free. Sylvester Stallone invests in Largo.ai. The startup, cofounded and directed by Sami Arpa, uses AI to optimize the creation of audiovisual content. The company has recently secured $7.5M in investment. Sami Arpa holds a PhD from EPFL and the company is based at the EPFL Innovation Park. ✨ Le Prix de Lausanne, créé en 1973, est un prestigieux concours international destiné aux jeunes danseurs et danseuses de 15 à 18 ans. Il vise à repérer, soutenir et valoriser les talents de demain.   Ce week-end (8-9 février) marquera la fin de l’évènement et des places sont encore disponibles pour le spectacle "Étoiles Montantes", le 9 février à 15h, qui met en lumière les Lauréats et Finalistes de cette édition, aux côtés des invités stars Margarita Fernandes et António Casalinho.    L’évènement a depuis quelques années un lien direct avec l’EPFL. Vous pouvez découvrir durant la semaine du concours, au Théâtre de Beaulieu, l'installation interactive et ludique "Dancing through Time", développée par le Laboratoire de Muséologie Expérimentale (eM+) de l’Ecole, dirigé par Sarah Kenderdine. Grâce à l’IA, les contenus vidéos sont enrichis de visualisations des mouvements de danseurs et danseuses, offrant une expérience immersive dans laquelle les visiteurs peuvent créer leur propre récit. Have you ever wondered how the tiny ballpoints in pens are made? They may look simply, but their production process is surprisingly complex and so are the machines that make them ! Together with EPFL Alumni from Ticino Chapter, we had the chance to visit Mikron Group and see how some of the most precise machines in the world are built. A big thank you to Bruno Joehl and Enrico Tumminaro for showing us around and patiently answering all our (so numerous! ) questions.
