Info
The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) in Basel, Switzerland, is a world-class biomedical research institute with a twofold mission — understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease, and training early career scientists. The institute has an international staff of about 330 people and 19 research groups, whose main areas of focus are neurobiology, genome regulation and multicellular systems. Named after Friedrich Miescher, the Swiss biochemist who discovered nucleic acids, the FMI is affiliated with the University of Basel and the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research.

Gene regulation is key to life—shaping cells, responses and disease. Now, in Molecular Cell (Cell Press), researchers led by Marc Bühler, Merle Skribbe, Charlotte Soneson and Michael Stadler have made significant progress in uncovering how transcription factors—proteins that control gene expression—work in fission yeast, a key model organism for studying gene regulation. Their work also led to FMI TFexplorer, a free, easy-to-use tool for scientists.

Congratulations to Dr. Deyasini Chakraborty on defending her PhD thesis this week! 🥳🎓 Her research reveals how nucleosomes—structures of DNA wrapped around proteins—control the access of specific molecules to p53, a protein that helps regulate cell growth and prevent cancer.

🎓🔬🚀 Do you want to 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? Would you like to present your work to leading principal investigators and build lasting professional relationships across Europe? If you are a postdoc in an EU-LIFE institute, this is your chance! The EU-LIFE Postdoc Initiative launches today the 𝗘𝗨-𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲, with the aim to support early-career researchers in our alliance ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dJVz33yx “Invited seminars and research visits provide crucial networking opportunities, but early-career researchers often fall by the wayside for lack of funding as they are still developing their network. That's why the EU-LIFE postdoctoral exchange program aims to empower postdocs to independently undertake such visits in view of networking and future career planning," said Stijn Hawinkel, member of the EU-LIFE Postdoc Initiative and postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Plant Systems Biology, VIB (Belgium). #ResearchCareers #EuropeanResearch #ExcellentResearch #postdocs #PostdocCareers
