As #COP29 in Baku strives to whitewash the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh, Alain Navarra, President of Hyestart, will speak in Rome in support of efforts to preserve the Armenian heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh now more than ever threatened by the Aliev regime. The conference, organized by the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Institute for Ecumenical Studies, will take place on November 18 and 19, 2024 at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas. « Ce livre est le premier à examiner comment et pourquoi les États-Unis ont refusé de reconnaître le génocide arménien jusqu'au début des années 2020. Bien que le gouvernement américain ait exprimé sa sympathie pour le sort des Arméniens dans les années 1910 et 1920, l'historien Julien Zarifian explore comment, à partir des années 1960, un ensemble de facteurs géopolitiques et institutionnels ont rapidement conduit les États-Unis à adopter une politique de non-reconnaissance du génocide à laquelle ils se sont accrochés pendant plus de cinquante ans, à travers les administrations républicaines et démocrates. Il décrit les forces en présence : les militants de la diaspora arménienne américaine et leurs alliés, les hommes d'État de la guerre froide inquiets de s'aliéner la Turquie, alliée de l'OTAN, et la réticence généralisée des Américains à se confronter directement aux horreurs du passé. S'appuyant sur des documents du Congrès, des journaux rares et des entretiens avec des lobbyistes et des décideurs, il révèle comment la reconnaissance du génocide est devenue une question aussi complexe et politiquement sensible. «

At a time of growing political mobilization in Switzerland (the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva has just adopted an appeal calling for the “unconditional release" of all Armenian prisoners; the Grand Council will soon vote on a resolution calling on the Federal Parliament to “demand the immediate release of Armenian prisoners”), the Federal Council's current position (talking only about climate at #COP29, organized in one of the world's most repressive regimes, including against its own people) seems untenable. Azerbaijan must be held to account, one year after the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh, and must start by releasing all Armenian prisoners arbitrarily detained in defiance of international humanitarian law. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the eve of #COP29, the Administrative Council of the City of #Geneva, true to its long humanitarian tradition and commitment to the defense of human rights, calls for the unconditional release of the 23 #Armenian prisoners illegally detained by #Azerbaijan. Hyestart, which has been working for many months within the Libertas Collective for the liberation of Armenian #POWs, welcomes this appeal by the administrative Council and thanks the City for its unwavering commitment to human rights. The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has announced a search for a new Associate Director. This position is the senior full-time staff position at REEEC. The Associate Director provides academic leadership and staff supervision for the Center, acts as its chief grant and financial officer, directs our interdisciplinary BA major, and teaches one course per year in the REEES curriculum.
