Day 1 of #COY19 started on a powerful note! #Climatechange disproportionately impacts young people, but they are also powerful agents of change. At #COY19, IOM is empowering youth to drive solutions for people to stay and people to move. #ClimateMigration
IOM - UN Migration
Internationale Angelegenheiten
Promoting safe, regular and dignified migration since 1951.
Info
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM works with its partners in the international community to assist in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration, advance understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic development through migration and uphold the well-being and human rights of migrants. More people are on the move today than at any other time in recorded history: 1 billion people – comprising a seventh of humanity. A variety of elements – not least the information and communications revolutions – contribute to the movement of people on such a large scale. The forces driving migration as a priority issue are: climate change, natural and manmade catastrophes, conflict, the demographic trends of an ageing industrialized population, an exponentially expanding jobless youth population in the developing world and widening North–South social and economic disparities.

Through IOM’s psychosocial support activities, these four-legged friends provide a safe space for emotional healing and connection. A reminder that sometimes, the best therapy comes with a wagging tail. https://www.iom.int/Zpo

To build back stronger. For many migrants along the Thailand-Myanmar border, the impact of Typhoon Yagi was catastrophic. IOM provided lifesaving aid such as food, clean water, shelter materials, and hygiene kits – supporting over 10,000 vulnerable individuals. We remain committed to help flood-affected families build back stronger. https://www.iom.int/Zcy

In times of crisis, reaching people quickly with essential relief is critical—but so is doing so sustainably. That’s why IOM values its partnership with Flexport, whose commitment to sustainable logistics ensures that each life-saving delivery also considers the planet’s future. Thanks to our partnership, IOM has swiftly provided displaced families with life-saving relief items around the world —most recently in Sudan— while Flexport also offsets the carbon emissions of these critical shipments. Together, we’re building a supply chain that doesn’t just support communities in need—it also respects our shared environment. More on our partnership 👇 https://lnkd.in/epnJwMbi
