New Study Highlights Reliable Gaze Measurements with neos® neos® provides reliable, consistent and robust measurements of eye movements, supporting its use in a vast array of clinical applications to objectively measure functional eye movements. A recent study assessed the test-retest reliability of neos®, machineMD’s VR-based medical device, with promising results. Using a robotic eye system to simulate human eye movements, the study minimized biological variability and ensured precise measurement. Key takeaways: - High test-retest reliability of gaze precision - Consistent performance across all gaze directions - Robust results even under simulated noise neos® has the potential to become an invaluable tool in routine eye examinations and more complex neuro-ophthalmic assessments of ocular motility in patients with neurological disorders. #Neurodiagnostics #VRinHealthcare #EyeTracking #MedicalTechnology #Neuroscience #startupSwitzerland Avantika Naidu PT PhD, Ana Coito, PhD, Julian Lehmann, Dominik Brügger, Mathias Abegg Read the article: https://lnkd.in/ed4SeACR https://lnkd.in/e9dG4Cc3

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month – Let’s spotlight innovative approaches in glaucoma diagnosis and management! 👁️ Glaucoma remains one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness, making it critical to explore new methods for early detection and better monitoring. A recently published pilot study offers promising insights in this direction. The study by Karim Abi Said, René Höhn, Mariana Falcão, Ph.D. , Bruno Hauser, Avantika Naidu PT PhD and Mathias Abegg explores the use of virtual reality (VR) and pupillography to provide more objective measurements for glaucoma management and found that the pupillary light reflex (PLR) and relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) can be used to monitor glaucomatous optic nerve damage in a single eye over time, providing a more convenient and accurate approach to long-term glaucoma management. Virtual Reality Pupillography swings the flashlight on Glaucoma Management Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect (RAPD) measurements reliably detected asymmetries in optic nerve damage in glaucoma patients and, moreover, a combination of standard automated perimetry and RAPD led to improved prediction of the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, as measured by OCT. In the future, this may enable the use of pupillary light reflex over time to monitor glaucomatous optic nerve damage in a single eye. A pilot study by Karim El-Koussy, René Höhn, Mariana Falcão, Ph.D., Bruno Hauser, Avantika Naidu PT PhD, and Mathias Abegg, combined neos™ pupillometry tests with standard automated perimetry and OCT to evaluate whether RAPD could sufficiently distinguish between the two eyes in asymmetric glaucoma and thus lay the foundation for using the pupillary light reflex (PLR) of a single eye to monitor progression longitudinally. A new medical device changes the workflow of a practice - and opens up new possibilities. For the ebovis ophthalmology practice in Zurich, neos™ was the missing piece of the puzzle that made it possible to offer a complete, standardized, instrument-based eye examination. Today, neos™ is an integral part of this examination, which is carried out by an optician. The data is uploaded to a secure data cloud and analyzed remotely by two ophthalmologists. An example that could set a new standard - check out our movie. Many thanks to ebovis for the cooperation and valuable insights! #startupswitzerland #Opththalmology #Neurology #NeuroOphthalmology #Optometry https://lnkd.in/eD_ExfTZ

Yesterday, we hosted Marie Reynders (MD, PhD candidate) at the IIT for a spontaneous talk co-hosted by our colleague Giovanni Bertolini (project lead) at the Institute of Optometry, in connection to an industry-academia collaboration project with machineMD as a partner. Marie shared with us how she discovered virtual reality as a diagnostics tool, specifically for persistent postural-perceptual dizziness. It was great to have you with us & learn from you Marie! cc Samuel Schenk, Luca Fluri, Oscar Alanso, Arzu Çöltekin

Zurich is home to ebovis, the world's first ophthalmology practice to offer a standardized, complete, apparative eye examination. The neos™ examination device developed by machineMD plays an important role in this. For the first time, it enables a comprehensive, automated neuro-ophthalmological examination. The people behind ebovis are neuro-ophthalmologist Dr. Mathias Abegg, ophthalmologist Dr. Sven Hirsch-Hoffmann and general practitioner Dr. Markus Abegg. With ebovis, they show that a efficient, high-quality, examination of eye structure and function can be performed by a medical assistant or optician alone - making eye care accessible for all. Read more about it in our article: https://lnkd.in/ePrYVwmy and watch our video: https://lnkd.in/eD_ExfTZ Many thanks to ebovis and Tanja Veljkovic, Markus Abegg, Sven Hirsch-Hoffmann, Mathias Abegg for these valuable insights into their clinical practice. #startupswitzerland #Opththalmology #Neurology #NeuroOphthalmology #Optometry
